The problem with "your messaging is wrong unless you can attract more followers" is exactly what's wrong with Liberalism. Liberals have moved so far right to get more people on board that it's a misnomer to even call them Liberals. Leftists should not move right just to win the hearts of people who support centrist policies such as genocide. If they did, they'd be Liberals, not Leftists.

your messaging lost to trump and is on the brink of losing to trump again! your messaging is towards accepting the worst right wing ghouls of our lifetime while scolding an ideology on the political fringe!

Well no I just think your question is dumb/isn't relevant to what I'm talking about in terms of what most american voters seem to be like. I'm saying it doens't even matter if you're right that the war in Gaza will have an impact, wouldn't even matter if it was as big an impact as you're making it out to be....I'm saying a large large majority of voters aren't going to see that connection at all, and it's a very heavy lift to try to make them see that connection, let alone then convince them to prioritize that connection over the much more direction connections that exist between the Preisdency/bureaucracy and those issues. Like they know Trump is going to come in immediately and do some things in the first days/weeks/months in office that are going to impact these issues for them. They do not know what the future holds in Israel and Gaza and if it spreads and how big the effect will be and etc. They can guess, but they can't know. So I think it's a huge challenge to convince people to vote for someone else/not vote based on something that is a longer term unknown to them. Especially when one of the options of that unknown is that it never really impacts those other issues much at all. People will roll the dice on that and vote for the here and now impacts first, agreed? Soooo....how do you change their minds?

I agree - I think there’s an element of public pressure that can be put on lawmakers, and we should apply it where we can while also looking to transition out of our current political system. Then there’s other things that I think are non-starters for them that they would lose on before changing course, Israel being one of them. I also think things like Obama corralling all of the candidates to consolidate around Biden to stop Bernie in 2020 and bringing the Squad types to heel indicate that they will under no circumstances share power with the Left.

There’s an old Felix Biederman quote about how Bernie was the off-ramp for America from global power to a society with dignity where we could go the way of other former empires turn social democracies, and how the fact that he was stamped out the way he was was indicative of the Democrats sharing a commitment with the Republicans to pursue permanent growth and worldwide dominance at the expense of its own citizens (although I also have a lot of criticism for the Bernie 2020 campaign, too).

Thanks for posting this. i had no idea that Reagan also played a role in our homelessness epidemic along with all the other horrible atrocities he committed.

I think one thing that makes it harder for the Squad to do much is there's so few of them...it's 4, 5 people depending on who you're including I think. It's hard to stand against the peer pressure and power of the party when there's only a few of you, whereas the Tea Party takeover of the Repub party and now the Freedom Caucus is like 30-40 members. You need a good chunk like that that makes it easier to stand together and withstand the pressure from leadership to fall in. I don't know enough about house races around the country to know if we have any more folks like that possibly joining in 2025 or what.

liberals have no friends to the left of them. conservatives no enemies to the right of them.

  17. Okay I started talking to you today because you said Palestine was a single issue, it's not. I should have just responded that if Israel is a single issue so is "America."

What you are asking is how to get Americans as a whole to care about people in the rest of the world outside of Europe. The correct question is whether that's possible. I am more or less accepting of the idea that it is not reasonably possible in which case the two paths are the forced redistribution of American wealth to the global south or continued and strengthened American global hegemony. I have a preference for the former. Your question only becomes an issue when both of those paths are intolerable or if you genuinely, for some reason, believe American minds can be changed. So your question actually has nothing to do with me

If W’s endorsement is legitimately something the Dems would accept, they should have just taken Sorkin’s idiot ass advice and nominated Mitt Romney. Bush/Cheney are responsible for several magnitudes more death and destruction than Trump was. This again goes to my thinking that on the course they’re on, Dems will be embracing MAGA with open arms in ~15 years.

Am I crazy or didn't Obama/W/Clinton do a video in support of Biden in 2020? They were all standing out in the woods somewhere or at a monument or something?

From a domestic policy side of things, I think its a pretty easy case to make that assuming (this all changes if she is not kept on) Lina Khan stays on as FTC chair that will have a drastic difference than whoever Trump would install. I even think the amount of attention she has got in the political news and its circle has created a vacuum that whoever comes after her will get compared to. We are staring down potentially some of the bigger tech companies getting the Microsoft treatment, which is a huge thing in my opinion.

i'm sorry, but you're not gonna get a population whose fears have been easily stoked by foreign threats over the past century, to care about things foreign. nuh uh.

I know from some of the folks that Sam Seder has interviewed on his show is that anti-trust is one of the hottest specialties that law school students are gravitating toward, which is mainly being stated as caused by Lina and her team. That is aside from the comparison in my last post but just wanted to point that it has caused waves of folks who want to bring cases and work on law in her vein.
