The Taylor Swift playing Coachella rumor is...wild.

except for the fact that the tour was cancelled *three weeks* ahead of its start so they can just go out in bigger stadiums and make more $.

I had tix to Palm Desert and will get a refund fine, but there's tons of negative/pissed off comments on Shakira's IG page and Reddit due to those who planned to travel for some shows and have non-refundable hotels/travel arrangements.

Sure, "you should have picked the insurance option" or whatever, but it seems Shakira's team definitely could have done these initial shows and then powered back up for bigger Stadium ones in 2025, or whatever. kind of a mess.

As someone who lives in a major city, I've never treated concerts as destination events/vacations (especially non-festivals). Just seems like there is too much that could go wrong when dealing with flights/hotels.

I feel like she's simply too big to do it. Coachella would be beneath her at this point unless she's headlining all three days.

I would imagine she'd headline all three days, and I guess conceptually it could be a change of pace for her? Just trying to think of the reasoning, my first reaction was similar to yours.

The whole festival will essentially be Swifties meaning, unless it's like Taylor SWift-adjacent music, most acts will play to completely disinterested crowds.

My general rule of thumb is that if I'm traveling for a non-festival show I have to have a vested interest in at least 3/4 of the line-up and that I treat it like a mini-vacation with at least one day of tourist-y stuff on either side of the event.

That way, if something falls through? At least it's not a wasted trip. And if everything goes according to plan? It's still a really cool trip with some "recovery" time post-music.

In 2017, a friend of mine flew in for Riot Fest the day that Jawbreaker played and took a flight home later that night. It was both a money and time thing--and I get it; he did what he had to do to make it work--but man, did that sound not at all enjoyable to me. Haha. I would have rather sat it out, TBH.

Yeeesh, that is so risky doing it all in one day. One flight goes wrong, you're fucked.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I’ve heard of people doing this and honestly, it sounds way more stressful than it does fun. I understand why they did it, but man, I don’t think I could do that

A while back on The Cure subreddit, I read a comment from someone that flew out to see them in Sydney, Australia. They flew to Sydney, went to the show, and then flew out the next day without doing anything else. That honestly blew my mind

I drove 5 hours there and 5 hours back to WWWY just this Saturday haha

Were they coming from North America/Europe? The jet lag at the show must have been brutal.

I did WWWY last year for less than 48 hours, but I only came from SoCal. Flew into Vegas Friday afternoon, did the SoCo side show that night, the fest all day Saturday, and flew home Sunday morning at around 11am.

It was pretty risky. I'd rather sit an event out than deal with the anxiety of all that but... It all worked out for them in that instance! They got there, saw the 3-4 bands they wanted to see that day and were back in NYC in the middle of the night.

My anxiety won't let me do that sort of thing. Hah. Like you said, I fully get it if you really want to see that one band or whatever but... I couldn't handle it. So I'm pretty picky about what I do or don't travel for these days.

Weirdly, that sounds less stressful than what some people are referencing. Because you're in a car so you have full control over stopping and going, y'know?

It's the ambiguity with some of the other travel that would stress me out.

I feel like as the biggest act in the world there are casual fans of hers that are in to a wide variety of different music…but even if not at the end of the day a swifties dollar is just as green as anyone else’s

I'm sure there's plenty of Taylor Swift fans who also enjoy a lot of other music at Coachella. Maybe not the entire line-up but that poster is always such a grab-bag so... That's not really a thing, anyway.

But even if that were the case, most artists would be aware/know what they're getting themselves into, and they'd still get paid so... Whatever.

I would never go to Coachella. But if I did, it’d probably be a year Taylor played so I could enjoy small crowds at every other stage
