Yeah, these were some of the teams I paused on, but I actually think I can see it with the Patriots considering the weird hiring process it was with Mayo. Like, didn’t it take them until after the draft to officially announce his responsibilities or something? Idk, I remember he was basically the head coach on paper, but there was definitely some stuff being talked about how weird it was that they didn’t just announce him as the head coach like every other team does

Honestly don’t think he would come to Philly either if Sirianni got canned. Howie gets final day of the 53 and Lurie is more involved in team operations than most owners, hence why there’s always drama with the Eagles

 

The Bears would be a really good fit for Johnson if they fire Eberflus

 

Yeah I thought about them too, but they seem like a team that would, at most, fire Shane Waldron before making wholesale coaching changes

 

The only way I see him coming to Jax is if he just really likes the offensive roster, but no way is he doing it with Baalke. Interesting to see if he actually goes for a HC gig this year or stays with Detroit

 

I think Ben Johnson is going to end up on some team that isn’t as good as some teams that will have vacancies, but could be good in a couple of years much like Dan Campbell did so methinks he passes in Philly, Dallas, and Jax despite the appeal of those rosters

 

I think he’s gonna need to shit or get off the pot (is he a #realshitter?) sooner or later. With what happened with Washington, I imagine he may have rubbed some organizations the wrong way. I don’t think he can keep twiddling his thumbs for multiple offseasons despite receiving interviews and offers.

personally, I think it came down to money and term length although it was never explicitly reported that way. Dan Quinn has a mid-to-low NFL coaching contract, and he probably rightfully thinks he can ask for the moon and at least be top 10 paid/be covered for many years to try to protect from when the team inevitably scapegoats him because that’s what happens to almost all NFL head coaches

which is why I think someone like Dallas is more of a possibility than you might think because of “stability”. Ultimately, who cares how stable the job is perceived if you’ve gotten your stability written into the contract

Right, that’s why I’m not ruling out Dallas as a possibility for Johnson. Jerry will shell out more money than just about any owner and he’s shown a willingness to stick by his head coaches for a long time even if the evidence suggests he shouldn’t.
