This is mad. Nigeria had their flight to Libya diverted, and they were then locked in an abandoned airport miles away.

Libya should be suspended by FIFA for this behavior. The same should happen to a certain country in the Middle East.

Tuchel with this group of players would be such an unmitigated disaster. Make it happen.

  8. I know why Tuchel isn’t an exciting hire, but he’s definitely an upgrade right?

Easily. He’s also an expert at knockout/tournament football. My issue would be more with his personality and how long it would last.

In the short term, I think it makes us very scary though.

He's a modern-day Mourinho without the weird press conference stuff. Comes in, finds success in first season, falls out with everyone, leaves in second season.

Sadly for you, Poch couldn't win a one team tournament, as he very much showed at PSG lol.

That said, this screams disappointing exit in the QF after Tuchel falls out with someone spiky like Pickford and Foden, to me

Kane will be stoked. I'd even argue that he's played a part in the decision.

Underwhelmed and disappointed in this decision. It's not because of the silly 'oh he's German' aspect. I just don't think he's the right man, and I don't see him as someone who will lead England to success but I'll wait and would love to be proven wrong.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

I really can't see how this works, nor can I believe that this was something the FA had planned out. He seems a very strange fit for an international manager and given his personality, I can't see him lasting all that long with the English fans, media and pundits swirling around.

Feels like a wild throw of the dice to me.

It's seemed all along that the FA were hoping it would be Carsley, then he fucked it and they've panicked and gone for the first big name who wants it.

I'm surprised it's happened so quickly, though. Maybe that's a positive sign.

    hmmm

Southgate was an excellent group leader. He did genuinely great work creating a healthy atmosphere in the England squad, especially around major tournaments, which no other manager post-Venables had achieved. At international level especially, that's essential.

Tuchel is not a group leader in that mould. But he's a few steps up in coaching and tactical prowess, and he's also pragmatic, able to organise a team around a system in a relatively short space of time. That's what they're betting on and I think it's a worthwhile bet to take.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I can’t wait to see what players Tuchel immediately pisses off

Oof I thought y’all were talking about Man U with the Tuchel comments earlier. I was way off!

    …but my point still stands.
