The point is that the country just elected an extremely dangerous man. An actual fascist. People are protesting him. They are showing the strength and size of the opposition. We are here and we aren't going away. That's the message. We will be here every step of the way to remind trump and his GOP cronies that we don't approve and will stand in his way however we can. The how's and when's will come from organizing. But right now, cathartic protests after the election results are not only useful but necessary.

I understand. I think sometimes the message gets muddled is all I'm saying. And given his tendencies to flat out lie a clear opposition message is a must.

From where I'm standing the message seems clear. And it sure seems to be getting to Trump already so mission accomplished.

Third night and I'm still having a little trouble trying to sleep. I just can't believe there was so few votes separating us from pushing forward as country to suddenly taking 10 steps back. I could not believe we could be this stupid, irresponsible and morally lost.

The Big Brother cast members who have been locked inside a house with limited outside contact are (presumably) the last six people in the US to learn that Trump won the election. Only one of the six was not confidant that Clinton would win.

Who knows if she could be the right candidate in four years, but it worked for GWB and Clinton did win the popular vote.

Times have changed since GWB and it doesn't matter that Clinton won the popular vote, she didn't win the election.

  16. Also, for fuck sake, even if you don't agree with it please don't fucking film rioters. You'll get people arrested.

if we're talking about the viability of a candidate, it absolutely matters. it shows she shouldn't be dismissed out of hand for that reason.

How likely is it that trump attempts to take control of the media ala putin. he did it over a year or so. what is in place to help prevent it?

Clinton was a remarkably weak candidate and one of many reasons why President-elect Trump is now a reality. It's utterly bizarre to me that anyone would defend her viability as a candidate after the election result.

I'm very hopeful that we're never going to get to this point over the next four years, but I still think everyone organizing against Trump currently at the grassroots level should watch the doc Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom on Netflix and take notes.

I remember after the first time i watched it just being completely stunned by the revelation that a successful unarmed revolution in a western country in modern times is not an unrealistic pipe dream, it's very much possible.

Just playing devil's advocate to try to get a better understanding here.. You're telling me that if you were a business owner who put everything you had into a coffee shop, restaurant, etc..you wouldn't film the person smashing your windows?

I don't think he'll go that far, but limiting access, only working with favorable outlets...in someways that already the norm, but he took it to the extreme in the latter half of his campaign. Seems like a fair expectation.

Investigative journalism, in the vein of the WaPo stuff on his charitable contributions could be important. Good thing nothing happened this election season that might discourage people inside the admin from talking to the press.

  23. Well, I wouldn't be a business owner.

That she came as close as she did, despite the marks against her, tells me that you shouldn't dismiss legacy candidates out of hand, that's all. Especially when the bench is as weak as it currently is.

Also, I did read the link you posted in response to Jason. Some of it I understand, but it's still hard for me to get behind. All I know is, if my property is being destroyed it will create a rift between protestors and myself that will become unfixable. That specific aspect of rioting just seems so counterproductive to me.
