I also do stereo stuff with my amps where i isolate one amp for a quieter part and then come back with both, or I'll do a quick thing that goes left - right - left - right to create a call-response from one amp to the other.

Essentially I try to do album-style production live lol so being able to look at my pedals is sort of necessary but Dustin's right I gotta figure SOMETHING out to avoid pulling my neck like this again

I think you just really need to get over that if you're not gonna have someone you employ just for hitting effects, it's really impractical

That or kill your neck but I think you might end up with a short career if that's how much you're having to look down while playing

tough advice to hear because that's one of the trademarks of my playing lol. I get compliments on how well produced my guitar tone is and how coordinated I am with my pedals basically every single show even if it's only a guitarist from another band who notices

 

Jared, the drummer of Terrain, literally tells me the guitar tone is the third member of the band and it's a huge part of what he's reacting to when he decides how to play a certain part of the song haha. He's said that I have the best live production of any guitarist he's played with and it was a big draw of him joining the band

 

That's how you move on from playing for musicians (which I'm guessing you played the open mic lmao) to playing for fans

 

Just play drums

I think it's both - even if musicians are the only ones who can recognize HOW you made something sound professional, the fans will still think it sounds professional even if they can't put their finger on why

I think the biggest problem for me is me rushing my setup and changes between songs. That was a constructive feedback Jared gave me on Friday.

If I was taking my time more and not in an anxious frame of mind any time i feel like there's too much silence between songs, I would've adjusted the mic back up to where i didn't have to lean my neck down to sing.

 

You can sound professional without using effects for specific individual notes, and you also need to look professional in the process even if you don't have to look polished. Staring at the pedalboard does not make you look professional

I agree with your point, I would like to clarify that only certain parts of certain songs are pedal heavy and I do have plenty of time in each song to engage the audience and the musicians I'm playing with haha. I'm not like that shoegaze or stoner metal band who just stares down the whole time haha, I more so need to be able to take glances while I'm singing rather than stare at it

 

once my foot is in the right place I don't have to stare anymore, it's just about positioning my foot to the right pedal in the first place

 

As an aside I am obsessed with my Les Paul. I've never had a guitar with this good of tone control in the volume knob alone. It's also the guitar I feel the most comfortable playing already with its general neck shape and with the ebony fretboard. My picking hand feels completely natural on it. Everything feels good. I love it. I'm going to be a Les Paul guy and sell other guitars to get more Les Pauls at some point

I was gonna check for you when I got home, then I realized we just brought the merch back to my practice space after the show so it’s not here for me to look at. I’m almost positive they are Gildan though

 

My friend's band who just did their first show printed their shirts themselves on H&M bulk due to an emergency situation lmao
