this is gonna be my most millenial ass post ever on this site, but

anyone have tips for lowering your energy bill? Our bill last month was $315. It's obviously hot and humid in San Antonio so the AC was always around 74. Temps outside were upwards of 95 and over 100 most days in August. For reference, we live in the top floor of a town house built in 1925. Square footage is approximately 1100. The windows are old as shit and there are gaps in some of them. We also have an 85 watt dehumidifier that runs like 16 hours a day in the bathroom, where we're forced to keep the light on since it's connected to outlet where the dehumidifier runs. We also have a small air purifier that runs most of the day.

No dishwasher, no laundry machine. We thought our bill would be lower this month but it's somehow higher. We tried to keep the AC at 76 but I'm reading that 78 is the best number.

    Thoughts?

i think i remember reading that the texas grid's pricing is demand-based, so if more people are using electricity you will be charged more.

you can buy some film at lowe's or whatever hardware store to put over the window gaps, and there's these damp-rid things that are supposed to help absorb moisture in bathrooms or wherever that are like 10 bucks and last a couple of weeks for me

I don't think lights or the dehumidifier/air purifier should be using THAT much electricity so it's likely just lack of efficiency

you can maybe try blackout curtains too

our electric company does a rolling 12 month average thing so our bill has stayed between like, $140 and $165 every month for the last year or so

Are you guys able to put in a whole house attic fan? Obvs an upfront cost but it will really help cut down the monthly bills

I just remembered that one time I lived with a roommate in Carrollton and they were the one who set up our power but they accidentally inverted our apartment number so we paid for someone else's electricity for months and ours was on for months but randomly went off and we couldn't figure out why, and discovered it was due to lack of payment because we were paying for someone else's electricity instead
