There's a petition going around for the electors to vote for Hillary. Obviously there's no shot in hell but that would be just the cherry on top of an insane election.

If they comment on my stuff I'm sharing, I'll respond. If they comment back and choose to be ignorant and support the violence and racism going on, then they're removed immediately. There is literally 0 time we can waste on racists and white supremacists and supports of fascism when our efforts should be on engaging and mobilizing those who can be reached and reasoned with and those that are likely to support and join the causes.

Both of my parents were teachers and I saw them at their worst mentally after 30 years of teaching. They were so discouraged and tired, but I never saw it as regret for going into the profession. Low pay and long hours suck, but I think it's the way to go for me.

Yea, I definitely need to look into alt cert options but I currently work for a "grad school of education" (which is really more like a factory that spits out charter school teachers) and these types of programs just don't seem legitimate or helpful to me. Grad schools might be useless too though, my parents have told me you don't learn how to teach until you actually teach. What pathway did you take to get licensed?

Apparently 'Trump' is slang for Fart in England anyway so President Fart will do just fine. Don't give him the Dr. accolades he doesn't deserve that.

I missed the early talk last night about potential candidates for 2020, the guy I have been keeping my eye on for a while is Gavin Newsom. Don't think he will pull the trigger for 2020 as he is running for CA governor in '18 so he would probably be a 2024 candidate.

One of my "friends" on just posted this: "Look people it's not the end of the world. Calm down and stop freaking out about trump. He's not gonna kill you or some crap like you think so stop posting these novels about how he's gonna ruin everything. He won ok. Calm down"

Yeah I mean Ive kind of gone into the system just as a lot of these new regulations were getting implemented, so it's almost easier for people my age and younger because we never saw it any other way. Teachers that were teaching before NCLB and the era of "accountability" via standardized testing and other things are definitely more frustrated with it. It just creates so much extra paper work when all you want to do is teach and lesson plan.

I did it the normal way, went to school for elementary ed at a community college because they didn't offer a history education program there. Eventually went on to a 4 year school and finished out my bachelors in elementary ed. In my state, once you have your bachelors you can take praxis tests for subjects and get certs for them, so I'm certified to teach secondary social studies, secondary english, and special education. And your bachelors can be in ANYTHING...like I could have gotten my bachelors in finance and still became certified to teach elementary education.

Definitely true that you learn way more in the classroom than you do in college. The preparation I had was nice and it helps to get the education of pedagogy and child development and etc, but in the end it's always going to take you a couple years to get your lessons down and where you want them to be and memorized to the point where you can teach them without fits and starts in the middle of the lesson, and then you're constantly tweeking them to keep up with changing standards or curriculum or etc. And for me I still haven't had that opportunity to settle into one job/subject, I've gone from subbing for 3 years to long term subbing the last two years. Last year was for a subject I wasn't even certified to teach lol. Right now I'm doing a special ed job that ends in January, and then I'll be back to day to day subbing mostly at the high school I graduated from while I continue to search for a contracted position.

Might be a good idea to get into substituting at first just to get yourself into a classroom setting, but don't be afraid to take those alternative routes to certification. As sad as it may sound, those programs are the only way some schools can fill a classroom (depending on the area of course), and the truth is some of those people are HORRIBLE teachers their first year and a classroom of kids will suffer for it. But there's really no other way to get people to get better at the job than for them to teach.
