i realize it's more complicated than this, but like, a lot of people voted for Clinton in the primary. more than Bernie, in fact. and while i take no solace in this, likely more than Trump in the general.

the DNC absolutely has lessons to learn, not sure they're the ones the left want addressed.

  3. When Sanders or Warren runs in 2020 and loses I don't know what the anti-establishment type are gonna do. We need young blood. And there's basically no bench.

Oliver Stone should make Natural Born Killers 2 but with a Trump doppelganger.

a lesson i think is worth learning: there are consequences when voters left of center let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

    Jason,

It doesn't mean much, but I want you to know that you and your website(s) have had a fairly significant impact on who I am today because of the discussions in threads like this and the links and articles you have shared. I appreciate what you have done on this and AP over the years and I hope you do keep doing this. You have had an influence.

  9. Basically everyone that knows her has said flat out it'll never happen. That she wants nothing to do with it. Jon Faverou said he guarantees she will never run.

But yeah, I predict a reactionary candidate in 2020. A farther left progressive type that certain factions wanted to run this election. And I think they're going to lose. Badly. That's my gut feeling right now.

Cause here's the other scary thing: can Trumps numbers go anywhere but up now?

If the left is hoping to organize for structural change, why bother with the DNC? Move forward and if they were ever serious about progressing they'll get on board. Its clear from the initial reactions that most democrats aren't interested in opposing Trump as the racist, oppressive fascist that he truly is. I'm still not interested in letting them dictate the options and the message for the left.

Well they could go down, especially if his term is horrible which I fully suspect.

Take this for what it's worth. This is the first tab I open for the day. It's a wonderful place to read (mostly fair) conversation about the topics that mean the most. I love this weird little corner of the interwebs.

  16. I think he's going to be shockingly popular and play the press like a drum. I saw this play out with George Bush. Say he spends shit load and invests in infrastructure. Basically a new stimulus. He'll be fucking king. I'm prepared for it after I thought all of this with GW. I never thought he had a chance in hell to win re-election.

thing is we learned with Bush that Republicans dont get mad at fuck ups until sometime after they elect them the second time

i heard/read that as well. i think the DNC will put a lot of pressure on her, in part because of the lack of strong alternatives. would buy them some time. maybe the opportunity to be the first woman president will prove appealing. certainly understand why she wouldn't want it though.

  19. A permanent republican rule terrifies me more. And I don't think in our system a third party is viable, because it will create the opposite outcome we want. So, like I get this, but the outcome to this is the Republicans winning ... all the time. Like there's four years and massive fundraising needs to start now to even have a chance at 2% of the vote and Trump winning again.

i don't look at this election and think "what we really need to win is a lefty, Ivy law professor." in her favor though, she has a personality, which seems to matter, looking at every election since '92,

are you delusional? seriously, this is what you are taking away from an election in which millions of democrats either stayed home or defected to trump?

nah. just a lesson. one lesson.

i said that the DNC has lessons to learn like three or four posts before this.

  25. She has the personality, she can probably carry Massachusetts and those upper states. But how does she win Florida? or VA? or NC? And who do you pair her with? I'm assuming it'd be like John Hickenlooper to try and secure Colorado. I think Trump would just keep calling her racist slurs the entire election. I think Martin O'Malley will probably run as well.
