I think it’s my pick tomorrow, but I don’t think I’ll be able to get online to post. I can either swap weeks with someone, post earlier, or dm my pick.

My pick for this week is Eddie Vedder’s Into The Wild. I’m sure many of you have already heard the soundtrack before, so it might not be the most original pick, but it’s been on my mind a lot for two reasons. 1) we’re approaching fall, my favorite season and this is a perfect fall album. 2) I’m currently in Alaska checking off my bucket list and the soundtrack has a clear connection to this state because of the film. I listened to this album a ton in high school when I was in love with the film. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized just how naive of a person Christopher McCandless was, but these songs still give me a desire to get out into the world and explore nonetheless.

Whether you’ve heard it before or not, I’d encourage you to give it a spin outside, whether on a walk, hike, in a park, or on a scenic drive. Listening to it surrounded by nature or just in the open air matches up perfectly.

The soundtrack traditionally ends with Guaranteed (though I like the humming version as well). I believe everything after that are bonus tracks for streaming. Though some of the live renditions are pretty good.

Also, I like the alt cover for vinyl better:

  6. Oh interesting. Pearl Jam is a huge blind spot for me actually but from what I've heard I respect their live game at the very least. I also think I've only seen that movie in class in high school or something lol. Should be fun

Same. I know like three Pearl Jam songs, which I do like whenever I hear them. So I’m intrigued by this.

  8. "Rise" is a lovely song but I've never heard the rest of the soundtrack. Excited to check it out tomorrow.

Oooh yah I think this was one the first non-Emo/punk/rock things I remember having on my iPod in high school.

  10. Nice, don't think I've heard the score (and I'm assuming it's more of a folksy thing?) but I def remember watching the film in high school. Wonder if it's worth a rewatch.

I was obsessed with the movie as a teenager, watched it like 20 times once summer. I like all the music that’s in the movie but never listened to the full thing. Throwing it on now

  12. I kind of figured I would love this based on "Rise," and I definitely did.

Also, I don't normally listen to the bonus tracks on my first time through an album, but I'm glad I did here because "Here's To the State" is a great protest song.

really liking this. I also listen to the bonus songs on each listen, they’re really strong.

i think I’m gona do a run through of some Pearl Jam albums now, I really like Eddies voice now but i always hated Pearl Jam as a young punk. I’ll probably love it now

  14. Will this be the right vibe for doing housework, or should I save it?

Thought this was an easy, pleasant listen. Favorites were Rise, Hard Sun, and End of the Road. Guaranteed is real nice too. Definitely feels more like an actual album rather than a soundtrack, if that makes sense.

Yeah Hard Sun and End of the Road are especially good. Very nice album, and Eddie sounds great.

I’m glad people seem to be enjoying it. I’d actually never listened to the bonus tracks before this, but I agree there are some gems in there.
I do think it hits better in the outdoors, but there’s no wrong way.
I think it’s the rare soundtrack that can exist outside of the film. I used to just associate song with scenes from the film, but now each one has a life of its own. I haven’t seen the movie in over a decade now, but I think I enjoy the soundtrack more these days.

As I’ve listened to it more, some songs feel like mere ideas of songs that maybe could have become more fleshed out if Eddie had more time to write them. Still, it’s one of my favorite soundtracks hands down.

Soundtrack was an enjoyable listen. I've only heard a handful of Pearl Jam songs so I'm not super familiar with Eddie Vedder, but he sounded great on the soundtrack. Felt like a good end of summer/start of fall album. Still have to throw the movie on at some point too.

I’m giving this another spin while camping. It’s kind of cooling off, the leaves are changing. It’s really fitting, feels great

  21. Feels like I'm vibing with this the same way everyone else is. I wasn't super familiar with Eddie's solo stuff going in but these arrangements are just like, really nice and complement his voice well, I'll definitely be returning to it.

What is the best intro to Pearl Jam? Or rather their best album?

  23. There are a bunch I haven't heard, but Ten is really good, especially as a debut.

You've most likely already heard half of Ten if you listened to the radio in the past 30 years

Yeah, definitely familiar with at least Alive and Even Flow. Will probably check out the album in full.
