That loneliness is not a function of solitude.

I think either would've been able to beat Trump and I certainly would've been happy with either. Biden has a certain charm to him that I think would've helped a ton in this election that was so fueled by emotion.

A lot of the people I know who voted for Trump did so largely because of his pro-gun stance. Bernie is surprisingly pretty pro-gun himself so that would've been a wash and those people would've had to decide based on other issues.

  2. What do they block it with? They lost both branches of the government last night.

  3. The Biden or Bernie coulda beat Trump talk in many circles this morning is why I think he wins reelection.

yeah looking at the map for 2018, and the fact that there's no real prospective candidate to step up, i have no hope for 2020 whatsoever

I totally agree with you on that one, but I also think the fact that we're kicking people while they're already down is messed up. It should have been considered before this was enacted in the first place- I just don't get why penalizing the poor for being too poor to afford "affordable" healthcare was ever decided on.

i think we need to see more of how his term plays out before we start calling shots on 2020

    (i'm not confident either)

I mean, a lot of my communist friends do both revolutionary and reformist work. As for them not being relevant, it isn't that they aren't relevant, but that isn't the point and if one wanted to change something, they're going to need to change political realities across partisan lines. But, whatever. We don't need to have this conversation right now.

  10. The fundamental models that were mapped out last January look almost exactly right now as well. The rust belt itself was forecasted.

  11. It's crucial to remember the political climate when it was passed. You had a white, conservative base in Congress determined to sabotage the act and by proxy, their new black president and spineless Dems who were determined to play appeasement politics (much like we're seeing now). That's why the act became a mess.

I totally understand. It would be an enormous lifesaver if something did happen. IMO, it sucks that they'll have to cut corners (and possibly come out of retirement) for the rest of their life just to say "If I do get cancer, at least I'll be covered"

  14. I don't think that's how it works .. @David87 isnt there subsidies in those cases?

They won't even act like they want to. Republicans were prepared to leave a court vacancy for eight years. Democrats say they'll work with him. Quite the contrast from where I'm standing. Maybe they're saying it just because they "have" to but I don't buy it. The last thing I want to hear right now is bipartisan platitudes

  16. The reasoning was basically - at least people will be covered, and the act did TONS of good in terms of regulating a lot of the discriminatory processes that health insurance providers used to screw people over. It helped a lot of people, but it also caused some hurt - and that hurt would've been a lot less (or at least, distributed where it was easier to handle) had Congress not been determined to spite Obama.

And as someone in the belt I see it. The people that needed to be sold at the end were the moderates. They were either sold on Benghazi, emails, or tax cuts if they earn well enough. And Trump did it. I doubt the story in Ohio is much different elsewhere. Rural outskirts jumped on Trump early, and the other groups on the fence got sold at the end. Fucking sucks.

Really sick of seeing "just because someone believes something different, doesn't mean it's racist!" That's such a fucking shitty line of argument.

I wonder if any celebrities/entrepreneurs will come out of left field. I can't help but think that this may begin to trend.

"Not everyone who voted from trump is a racist!"

But they all voted for a racist. Which is at least just as bad
