Remember when democrats kneeled for a photo and said black lives mattered and then passed a bill giving police ungodly amounts of money for “de escalation training”

kinda like saying they support a ceasefire but still send Israel weapons

plenty of safe blacks people to put on stage. Every Palestinian is a possible liability for them.

DNC said they will allow the stage time IF first they let David speak at their protest outside. Uncommitted declined.

I just hate how even the few speeches at the DNC that come across as sympathetic to Gazans, they mention them in the same breath as hostages like "we need to stop the killing of civilians AND free the hostages!" as if a few hundred Israeli lives are equal to over 40,000 Palestinian lives.

Putting a Palestinian voice on stage is such an easy win. Like even if you don't give a shit about the morals of the situation and you're operating from a motive of "what is the best political optics" throwing the uncommitted folks a bone so that everyone else can pat themselves on the back and go "see! they are listening!" is still clearly the right move

It's like they *want* an incident to go down tomorrow and overshadow the rest of the night

This is politics. The goal is to beat Trump. You maximize that by maximizing your donors and keeping the tent as big as possible. There is strategy, it's a game, I understand how it's enraging but this is what it is. The goal is to win. This is not an education campaign or a policy one. Everything is useless if Trump wins in November. Kamala is still a better shot for peace in the region.

I said it before but someone brought up the point how Humphrey in 68 allowed anti-war protestors, well he lost. So where did that get him. We got Nixon, we got Reagan, we got 2 Bushes and if we don't get our tent as big as possible we'll get Trump and then who knows maybe we'll get Vance.

We're fighting for economic fairness, affordable housing, public education, LGBT+ right to exist, healthcare, democracy existing and all in all a more gentler/kinder American society. Things that directly affect all of us. Honestly, I was really enjoying perspectives and evolving my view on Palestine but I just see this whole thread chasing away anyone who doesn't shout genocide on every post.

I can’t in good conscience allow myself to not criticize the democrats for their support of Israel because of concerns about my economic wellbeing, my housing, my education system, my healthcare etc. I’d feel like a piece of shit if I did that. You’re right that there are marginalized people here whose lives have gotten worse over the past several years, and they face significant challenges in the coming years regardless of who is in the White House. There are also LGBTQ+ people, women, children, etc. in Gaza. Their lives don’t matter less than mine, and I can’t bring myself to care more about my life than theirs. Why should I care more about the lives of people in America than theirs?

You know I do get not posting the most gruesome stuff but I remember Emmet Till’s mom and her decision to keep the casket open for the whole world to see. Gaza is just full of Emmet Tills.

Stop. You're talking common sense when others are listening for morals with emotion.

Yes it would be good to get a Palestinian on stage. But as I've said before, they don't want to piss off the Jewish base. Some staffer has done the math, they've studied the statistics, they've weighed the pros vs the cons of who they'd prefer to alienate. Palestinians or the Jews.

This is pure politics. Sure we would love to see them at the very least make mention themselves if they're afraid of having a Palestinian on stage, but it's not looking like it's gonna happen. The right moral thing is to edenounce what's happening but they're afraid of losing the Jews. It sucks.

Politicians don't think with morals and emotion. They don't act in those. And I know y'all know that.

I don’t see the dems fighting really hard on that stuff either.

Reagan actually stopped israel from doing what he called a holocaust.

I'm not really sure what you're arguing here

Like, giving the uncommitted folks a seat at the table literally makes the tent bigger. If you want to "maximizing your donors and keeping the tent as big as possible" you include them

buddy, I know a way they guarantee thousands of votes in a Michigan win.

plus it’s not alienating Jews. It’s towing the US imperialist line that’s the primary support for israel

I hope take a step back and realize that going "sure it would be good to do something but they can't do it! it'll piss of the jews!" is rather antisemitic

also not sure what is supposed to be wrong about using emotion. Humans rose to the top of the evolutionary pyramid in part due to their ability to harness logic and emotion in tandem. Trying to downplay emotion is literally throwing away half our reasoning power.

They literally can't because they run the risk of pissing if the Jews. They're being snowflakes, they're even complaining to the Emmys that there's a Palestinian documentary up for an award. Dems are prob afraid of AIPAC.

Well firstly, I'm saying anyone who doesn't post in an exact certain way has started to get shouted down on here. I've just went and blocked a few people, that's my first time doing that. I like the quirky personal way of discussing politics in general, so I just feel certain people aren't being respectful in discourse.

Let's just call it what it is, super religious people and Jewish people support Israel and while they'll accept hearing "we need an aggressive peace" they're not going to accept hearing "Israel is a murderous state." The campaign does not want to open up their biggest weakness as the talking point focus when they have so many clear strengths. Right or wrong, you're not listening, the goal is to beat Donald Trump.
