The past month or so we’ve got great albums from Sturgill Simpson, Zach Bryan, 49 Winchester, and Red Clay Strays, among others. Even the Twisters soundtrack rips. Country music is in a great place right now.

 

There’s some parts of this that remind me of Tyler Childers’ Purgatory. Also I want a music video where the story in MEXICO plays out on screen.

 

I understand the impulse to be vocally annoyed by the deluxe, but as someone who was never anticipating this album would be anything more than a collection of hit and miss singles, I’m very happy to have another 9 chances to find some jams.

Also I would have loved if Taylor split her anthology into discs on streaming. Seems like the least you can do to maintain the structure of an album listening experience.

 

I don’t mind the extra songs, but I’d prefer artists putting some distance between the album and the deluxe. Give some time for the album to live in the world before you drop the outtakes. Otherwise, there’s not really any purpose in trimming those songs off the album.

 

Didn’t even realize there was a deluxe. Saw a track called “Hey Mercedes” so I think I’m going to go listen to that band first.

 

Also, the older I get, the more I enjoy country music.

 

How are the deluxe songs? I really like the solo stuff on the first half so curious if it’s more of the same.

As someone who is more of a post Malone fan than a modern pop country fan, I really like it.

This is like a compilation album of country artists featuring Post Malone.

 

"Yours" is as bad a song as I've heard this year. The number of awful people who are going to make that song a part of their lives...yuck.

 

okay, I think I sort of have a grasp on why albums with a ridiculously high number of songs help artists with the way things work nowadays, but I can't figure out the surprise deluxe second half that's basically an entire extra full album... how does that help? or is it just all about the surprise of it...? as Craig said earlier, it makes the distinction between the album and the extra stuff basically nonexistent.

so far, I've only had the chance to listen to the main album plus "Hey Mercedes". I liked a lot of it, but the sheer amount of collabs kinda made it feel like Post Malone was featuring on his own album. most of them are really good though, so I'm not sure it's a problem really. strangely I thought the Dolly Parton one is pretty weak, which sucks, and the Morgan Wallen song is really good, which sucks even more because I won't listen to Morgan Wallen on purpose ever. sticking “Hey Mercedes” on the extended version was a crime though - that one is definitely an early favorite. I'm looking forward to digging into the rest of the extended songs.

overall though, I did not expect to like this album nearly as much as I do. if I’m being honest, I really thought the whole thing was gonna feel like a big gimmick, and I don't think it did. if you can enjoy the current radio pop country sound and you like Post Malone then you kinda can't go wrong here

 

I’m digging this album. It does feel kinda gimmicky, but it’s not so far off base where it feels overly corny and embarrassing . I really like his solo songs the most. The additional songs on the Long Bed version give me a 90’s country vibe and I’m big on that sound.

 

Fallin in Love might be my favorite

 

I mean, sure, he went country, but I would also be a little mad about him saying Post Malone will “hate blacks” and I don’t think there’s anything pointing to him feeling that way, so…

 

Well yeah that part is super inaccurate (for all we know) but the country prediction in 2017 is hilarious

 

I think he’s just repeating what Post was already saying…

Credits on this one are kind of wild. If Wiki is right, it looks like the only time when a feature helped write the song they are featured on is Wallen, Combs, Hardy, and Stapleton. Funnily enough Paisley and Wilson are credited on the Parton song but not the songs they sing on.

I know country normalizes singing songs you don't write a lot more than other genres, but it still felt like an interesting spread here. Also whoever L Bell and Vojtesak are definitely seem to be the core songwriters for this project with Post.

 

Alright I made my own version of this. I could potentially trim 3-4 others based on features I'm not in love with but I think the songs themselves are great.

Yes, I intentionally went with one solo song/one feature song. This was fun, and honestly I think this is how I'll listen from now on. If you're wondering, I took off the songs with Tim McGraw, Hank Williams Jr., Dolly Parton (sorry), Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, and Hardy, and one of the songs off the extended version.

 

Sorry, cutting "Nosedive" is criminal. Best song on this album.
