Nah I’m not raging, Foxing rules. Draw Down the Moon is one of my favorite albums and can’t wait for the new one.

 

This site, and it's predecessor AP.net, don't exist without Brand New and it's rabid fanbase. Jesse Lacey was also wrong for what he did. Two things can be true at the same time, and I'd argue having that understanding is part of being a functional adult in a modern society.

Love Foxing, love how they're pushing the envelope and don't seek to conform to any expectations. But there is no denying this song is heavily influenced by BN, which is fine, nearly all art is derivative in some way, shape, or form. It's reminiscent of You Stole off Daisy.

Also to whomever said BN wasn't as willing to push their sound as Foxing, go listen to Nobody Moves/Cleanser.

People comparing everything to Brand New was one of the worst things about this site even before everything came out about Lacey. The only song where I really hear it is Grand Paradise.

Foxing rules and I think Beacons, Glass Coughs, and Five Cups are their three best songs.

I have never even compared this band to brand new before. I’m not making a comparison out of nowhere. But why am I continuing to be called out for it?

 

Hell yes. FIL as an opener on the tour is perfect for me. I also missed out on the FIL headliner last month too so very glad I get another chance to hear Head Void songs live this year.

 

I think it’s dumb someone told me not to compare them. It’s fucking stupid. I’ll keep saying it every time someone says it. I heard a similarity, I said it, I don’t always compare these bands. Everyone feeling the need to jump over themselves to point out how wrong I am is super fucking sick though and doesn’t make me hate this website at all

I've heard it before, plenty of bands exist to fill a similar hole. The comparisons don't really bother me as such, I was a huge fan of theirs.

 

Literally nobody had shit to say til one person got pissed off that I made a simple, accurate comparison and now everyone’s gotta get a word in edge wise.

 

Not calling you out at all, I was just saying it always irked me that everything always seemed to come back to them in a general sense. Probably didn’t need to comment that but I’ve got no problems with what you were saying.

 

Understood. And I take no credit for whatever that other guy is saying, I’m not even reading his posts and I’m unsure why people are engaging with them lol. I already said it’s no judgement call on Jesse or anything, I just heard “you stole” reverberating through greyhound loud and clear and thought for sure other people would hear it (the few people I made the comparison to IRL agreed fully). Most people seemed to either ignore my comment or briefly say yeah I hear it, not much else. Now it’s a shit show and people seem mad I even mentioned them which is insane to me. And also discrediting my comparison as ridiculous or shallow or dumb or making no sense is really really confusing to me because I know what I hear I know my skills and analysis capabilities I am not doing this out of thin air I know for a fact the two songs share similar qualities so it has just really thrown me

 

I think the vast majority of negative comments are towards the person doing whataboutism with Bowie and Cobain, not about actual sonic comparisons to BN. At least that's how I've interpreted the thread.

 

fwiw I'm pretty sure people are just annoyed with ragnarokstar's initial comments from friday which is completely understandable. No one is singling anyone else out here as far as I can tell.

FFS it’s not whataboutism, it’s literally just people getting mad whenever anyone says a band sounds like brand new. I’m not out here saying you all are unjustly persecuting Jesse or anything, I just think it’s straight up embarrassing the way people get so upset whenever anyone makes a comparison to the band. It’s not about who did the worst sexual assault, it’s about if I say a band sounds like Nirvana nobody bats an eye, but anyone says anything about Brand New on here and everyone gets pissy af.

 

I don't think anyone is calling you out. I've only seen back and forth with ragnarokstar, almost exclusively because of the Bowie stuff. Seems like people are just using the forum to discuss their feelings about Brand New and whether or not they think Foxing sounds similar.

You are welcome to do this, I don't think anyone said anything about it aside from one poster saying "I wish we could move past comparing other bands to Brand New" which seems like an extremely inoffensive thing to say.

I don't think anything in here has been directed at you personally until literally right now, but if other people's opinions on whether or not they hear Brand New in the song or if they feel like discussing it upset you or make you hate the website, I would recommend a short thread break. Not trying to be condescending, I really don't think it's that deep and there's no reason for it to get heated in here.

I will stop engaging in the "whataboutism" discussion to try and get the thread back on track.
