Attended the convention of the CT Tenants union today, really incredible inspiring stuff. They've accomplished some really impressive wins

Less than 48 hours after that show of solidarity, Ocean offered BSTU a historic deal: They rescinded all evictions in favor of a signed agreement that made the collective bargaining process official through December 5. In just 13 days, the union forced Ocean from eviction court to the negotiating table.

Since that was published (12/8/2023) the landlord has basically gone broke, and the tenants are going to buy the building and turn it into a co-op. Most notable thing at the convention for me was dues were established for this first time - everything prior to this had been grant funded, mostly for paying SEIU staff organizers I think. But wow, to do all that on grants is incredible

 

Clinton held a 60% approval rating in 2001 at the end of his presidency (while the Lewinsky affair was still fresh in people’s midnds!). I think it’s the highest approval rating amongst outgoing presidents in the modern era.
