    That doesn't make sense either. If you "call out", you are shortening "I am calling to say I will be out of work today." The "out" implies that there were unforeseen circumstances. "Off" implies it was formally planned. That's just me and what the fuck do I know. Ha.

    FWIW I have heard both "Call out" and "Call in sick" but never "Call in"

    Must be a regional thing. I've only ever heard "call in (sick)" and "call out" sounds strange to me.
