Honestly, why didn’t people tell MAGA/Trump supporters how unbelievably weird they are from the get go? Probably could’ve shamed a bunch of them outta that shit before Trump got elected.

 

When the right uses /pol/ memes to respond to people calling them weird

 

A good portion of the left tried IIRC and were shouted down by the "they go low, we go high" centrists

 

I think we got distracted with trying to make ourselves feel good by framing it as how much better we are. Subtle but powerful distinction between “we, the good folks, are offended and shocked by your behavior” and “you’re weird lol.”

 

Nothing wrong with being weird the difference is when people who like anime or magic the gathering get called weird they’re like yeah so what

My unrequested two cents is that
1) Dems tried to take weirdos seriously and present them as a grave danger, which backfired all the time. Most of all, Trump himself, who has plot armor

2) right wingers got too comfortable with the grift and they've established a double down mentality which is finally ripe for picking. To the point where "listen to yourself" can be a gut punch

I'm pessimistic Dems can keep it up though.

 

I would guess the weekend before the convention, but it would be an interesting way to keep building momentum to do it before.

It is hysterical watching republicans try to make Weird the new Deplorable and failing miserably at it.

It’s because when you boil it down, American conservatism really is a bizarre, abnormal set of beliefs and behavior that anyone not used to it would be weirded the fuck out by and would avoid at all costs.

 

Also they were deplorable

 

Calling people who aim to be bigoted bigoted or deplorable contains a minor social sting but that is ultimately their aim and they can simply react by doubling down on being bigoted to ‘trigger’ you further. Calling people who want to seem strong weird creates a framework where the only way to regain your strength is to own being weird but they don’t want to be weird. They want to be strong and intimidating. Not weird and affable. So they’re stuck.

You also take away the comeback that YOU are being deranged and emotional because you are showing sincere disgust or judgment. The ironic detachment of “you’re weird” with their frustration over being robbed of their power forces them into the position of the one who overly cares and is being sincere (which makes them feel weak because of their worldview).

Looking up synonyms for weird on Dictionary.com and then floating them on TV is weird.

 

My only complaint is that "weird" always my defense against these people and now I can use it lest I be labeled a lib.
