Jesus I work for an affordable housing non-profit and we just learned one of our community managers was shot and killed by a resident. Incredibly sad, and no one around the office really knows how to process as we get more information and the story develops.

That’s one of the biggest problem with the recent war on the homeless these people keep invoking, why are you punishing someone who did everything right but still has to sleep in their car because housing is unaffordable for so many? It’s like this country is so hellbent on being a shining example of meritocracy that we as a society just refuses to solve what is a deep systemic problem threatening the general welfare on a daily basis.

The Kamala stuff reminds me a bit of the campaign around Biden last time to some degree. When it was clear it was him or Trump people’s excitement around Biden came from the desperation to not have Trump as president. So people made it cool how he ate ice cream or said Jack or whatever. Here people are excited because everyone thought we were stuck with Biden, and it’s just such a huge relief that we get this fresh(ish) candidate all the sudden plus the double whammy of having a real shot to keep Trump out. Granted if you dig a little deeper it looks more like we got screwed out of being able to pick the candidate to vote for but I think any option other than Biden is enough at this point.
