Yea, Unbreakable is a weird one and I loved it when I first saw it, but now it's almost unbearably slow at times. If your kid handled all of what you mentioned as far as horror goes, The Village should be a good one for next up. You can save Unbreakable till he's a little older and then you can tie in the rest of those 'universe' movies.

  2. It's the writing that occasionally suffers. One of the only writers I know that has literally run the gamut of both intentional and unintentional, good and bad dialogue across his films.

  3. For what it's worth, I liked Unbreakable as a kid when the only other of his I'd seen was The Sixth Sense

Why is realistic dialogue the standard? The films are not about realistic things.

    M. Night is the reason i love movies. growing up on his early work was what led me to writing and studying the way films are put together when at the time all i knew was actors on a screen. it just ignited something in me that nothing i’d seen prior had done.

i don’t pretend he’s hitting homers all the time anymore, but i will never not see his work in theaters within the first week. wildly unique storyteller and, flawed or not, i’m never bored by his films.

his writing for the car scene between Haley and Toni in The Sixth Sense is still unmatched. Toni’s performance in that scene alone is a masterclass in acting.

I watched The Visit last night for the first time. I get why people don’t like it and there’s nothing special to it but i just always seem to have a good time with his movies. The Visit is just like a classic scary story retold in a fun way.

The Visit was so refreshing after The Last Airbender and the Will Smith one.

How did this joke not occur to me? This must be how it feels when someone thinks of a cool invention and then someone else makes millions off it and they beat themselves up over not taking initiative and making it first.

A dad not knowing anything about their kid is the most relatable thing about him.

  23. Very wholesome. The whole marketing campaign around this one has honestly sold me on it. Likely to double feature it when I see Romulus opening night.

Also, Shyamalan hasn't aged a day

The 2000's were so vicious. They were desperate to tear him down when he became a star after The Sixth Sense, and when he did start to falter they piled on. It's a miracle he didn't start making Redbox movies.
