Just getting caught up after the weekend. A few things.

Spurs... We needed three points. And we didn't get them. Gonna be tough, but we can still do it. Also, this whole "deserves it/doesn't deserve it" business is nonsense. The team with the most points at the end of the season deserves the title. End of story. (Excluding some massive referee mistake gifting them points or some form of cheating, that is).

Loons... Off to a bad start, but the Ramirez strike made the loss easier to deal with. Hopefully we can hit our stride early before we fall behind too much. I'm not worried...yet.

RSL... How? How did they get three points away to SKC with the team they had? Oh, right, Plata.

Orlando... They look scary as fuck, Kaka especially.

That's all I have for now. Drowning in errands and homework.

Who would expect anything less from Harry?

It frustrates me though that idiots like him get to write columns, simply because of their managing experience, when young actual writers hardly get a look in.

Did anyone see Higuain's sending off and subsequent meltdown? Quite a scene. Wonder how harshly he might be punished for it retrospectively.

Yeah, that was bizarre. It was pretty sad to watch, really. I can understand feeling cheated and wanting to express your emotions, but at the end of the day, one has to realize the implications of acting out like that.

Let me preface this by saying this is NOT a defense of drinking and driving, but a comment on the attitudes I've seen towards Wambach.

The online response when an athlete gets a DUI is always so holier-than-thou that it makes me VERY suspicious. All of these MLS fans on reddit clamoring on about how abhorrent it is that Wambach drove after drinking....how UNFATHOMABLE it is that someone could EVER consider driving while impaired....Are these not the same MLS fans I see getting plastered all day at tailgates every Saturday? You expect me to believe that you all UBER home every single time? I find it very suspect.

I don't drink and drive. I walk everywhere because I can.
But I have before. I'm not proud of it, but I'm willing to bet most people have made that mistake as well. Nearly everybody I know has driven when they probably shouldn't have; I don't approve of that choice but I can't condemn them for it because I've fucked up before too.

So when Abby gets caught and the only response I see is condescending outrage towards her, it just makes me think these people aren't being honest with themselves. I don't even like Abby, I don't feel sorry for her, and yeah this totally could have been avoided. But this could have been MOST of us at one point in our lives, I'm willing to bet

Drinking and driving is inexcusable. If you put yourself in a situation where you would even consider driving home drunk, you've fucked up majorly.

If you can honestly say you've never done it and/or you'll never do it in the future, then I truly do commend you. Seriously. Not being snarky or sarcastic.

But EVERYBODY claims they would never do it, that there's no excuse, etc. And yet we still see DUI arrests. The math doesn't add up.

Ahaha. Yeah. Us failing to beat Norwich pretty much guaranteed mutually assured destruction for the north east.

  15. Assuming he stays on, Rafa is definitely the silver-est of silver linings a team set for relegation could really hope for

I'll just put this out there because I think understand where Jeff is coming from.

This is coming from a person whose brother is permanently disabled due to a drunk driving incident. He was struck by a drunk driver back in 2000 while crossing a street in Syracuse. 16 years later, he is now a 36 year old who cannot walk, talk, eat, or do anything for himself. He is fed Ensure and water through a tube in his stomach and he is quite literally waiting to die and has been for the last 15 years. I hate the idea of driving after drinking and I hate that it is such a problem. I don't feel sorry for those who do it because they're the idiots who put themselves in that situation.

With all that being said, I have driven home drunk once. Keep in mind I'm not excusing my behavior because I put myself in this situation. My brother and some of his friends were out drinking last year. The DD left with my brother and either forgot about me or was coming back for me and didn't tell me, I don't know. The bar closed earlier than I thought it would and I was left there by myself, keys in my pocket, and my car about 5 blocks away. I live in rural MN where there are no taxis, no ubers, etc. I called my brother and couldn't get through. And I'll just be honest here, I don't have any friends so there really wasn't anyone to call at the time, or so I thought. So I was left with a few decisions and ultimately, I made the wrong decision. I walked to my car, unlocked it, and set my keys on a propane cage about 20 feet from my car. The plan was to sober up before I drove anywhere. I sat in my car for about an hour in the freezing cold and thought I was fine to drive. I went and grabbed my keys and started up my car. Even though I was likely under the legal limit to drive, I still drove impaired. The drive home was 3 blocks of in town driving and then 8 miles of a county road with no other cars on it at 2 in the morning. Had I been pulled over, I think I would have passed a breathalyzer. But guess what, that's beside the point because the fact of the matter is that I still drove home impaired. Period. It was dumb. I was an idiot for doing it. I regret it often and I reflect back on it and ask myself how I could be so stupid. Even having a personal hatred for drunk drivers, I was still stupid enough to have a lapse of judgement after drinking.

So, to sum this all up, I do see where Jeff is coming from and I don't like the "holier than thou" attitude from people when stuff like this surfaces. However, if you legitimately have never been in that situation or have been smart enough to never put yourself in that situation, I'm really truly proud of you for that. Sometimes plans do not go according to plan though, and there's a drunk person who is then put in charge to figure out what to do even though at the beginning of the night, there was a solid plan in place. This was all typed up very quickly so maybe some of it is confusing. Quote me if you have any questions or criticisms because this isn't supposed to portray the wrong message. Drinking and driving is fucking dumb and you're dumb if you've ever done it, myself included.

Definitely feel like you got my point. Was never defending it in the slightest. Just trying to be realistic about how many people have been guilty of the same mistake.

Yeah, that's what seems to have been commonly talked about. The other rumour from the contract is that he gets a £3m bonus if he keeps us up.

I doubt he will stay, along with a host of our more promising players (which is by far the saddest part), but it would be incredible if he stayed regardless.

I've driven once or twice when I probably shouldn't have, and I rightfully beat myself up over it. The amount of shit I give someone for driving when they shouldn't is nothing more than what I've given myself in the past.

Definitely happens. My best friend is the most straight-laced, wouldn't hurt a fly guy I've ever met. If anyone in our group would be expected to do this back then, it was probably me (I used to be a rather immature and reckless person). He drove drunk once during a bad time in his life two years ago and rolled the car. He just got his licence back after a load of courses. but can't get a car cause of insurance of course (Something he admits is fair). His mum ringing me and crying down the phone made me realise that it can happen to people you would never expct.

It's of course not something to take lightly, and it does happen more than people claim, but people are right to berate him. I don't know who this player is, or the situation, but I hope he is forgiven by people and maybe fronting or helping an anti drink-driving campaign would help.

So, considering Leicester last year, I predict Norwich to win next years prem.
