The other side absolutely says things just as bad with minimal to no repercussions, and that's before we even begin to unpack what happened on January 6th. The double standards are insane.

I don’t know about you, but I’m very over “being better” than those folks. They’ll get the amount of humanity from me that they give.

 

The GOP in 2024 doesn’t do repercussions for its own. That means they lose power. This is also why ethics don’t matter when dealing with them. When only one side acts ethically, you’re basically giving them the playbook for how to beat you politically.

You’re not a shitty person for thinking that. Defending yourself and your right to exist from fascists isn’t something you need to apologize for.

 

THIS! These people feigning concern over any of this are the exact type of people that enable the continued existence and rise to power of those who want minorities of any sort to perish.

I have zero respect for people who want me and those I care about to suffer and/or die. The planet is in crisis, the health, wellbeing and safety of real, living human beings is at stake. An adherence to respectability politics is one of biggest reasons fascists and far right lunatics are and have been rising to power. One need not go back very far in history to see it well documented.

 

The idea of decorum and ‘civility’ is sort of a sinister framing to keep polite people from protesting and advocating for change/against power. The call should be for compassion, empathy, love, humanity, etc. and to fight against their antonyms. There’s no ethical rule against being vulgar or making dark jokes in service of that.

 

A friend recently got me to rethink things a bit when I apologized to them for engaging in some gossip and they told me that I shouldn’t apologize. And that the virtue of not gossiping is often spread to keep people and groups from communicating with each-other safely and privately. I know there’s a line between what they were saying and shit talking someone for sport but it made me consider how much of virtues like being polite and not talking out of school and waiting your turn are preached to and practiced by the disadvantaged while not being practiced by the people making the $$ and collecting the power.

 

Yeah crazy how that would make someone not want to joke about someone getting shot in the head.

Considering the band has written songs called The Government Totally Sucks and Fuck Her Gently, forgive me for expecting something different than a neoliberal corporate shill response for an off the cuff joke about a person who doesn't give a shit about their existence getting shot in the head.

 

Fascism aside, why the fuck would anyone have sympathy for someone that acts and talks the way he does? He’s openly mocked people far worse off than a cut on their ear. If it was someone he didn’t like, he’d probably bring it up at every opportunity and laugh about it with his psychotic worshippers.

I won’t sympathize with a fascist. Nor will I sympathize with someone that’s just a vile human being to their core.

It has nothing to do with sympathy for Trump. It’s about the fact that with all the hyperbole about fascism and the end of democracy, the actual literal end of democracy is that the person who “wins” the election is the person who survives the election. You don’t have to like trump or feel sympathy for him to see that living in a world where people just kill the person that they don’t want to win could probably be problematic.

Nobody is condoning killing people they don’t want to win an election.
