Using my S right now because it’s a great media player for when I use a flash drive.

Nah but fr Microsoft has taken a very bizarre strategy for the Xbox where gamepass is the big selling point but the price point just increased yet again and removed features for certain tiers of the subscription including day one games which is half the draw but they also have no intentions of keeping their first party studio games on their own platform so their consoles are no longer necessary to have a robust gaming ecosystem in your household

There's still SOME games coming to Xbox that I'm still looking forward to, like Avowed and Fable. Now if those were guaranteed to come to the PS5 I'd get rid of the console but for now I'll buy a 1 month code when something comes out.

Some recent games I have played:

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Like so many remakes or remasters or DLC, there is such a noticeable gap in quality in the base original game and things that were added later. At its core it is a puzzle game with light platforming, but the challenge levels start relying on precision platforming which makes having to restart entire levels when you are touched once not very fun. In the base game, though, it is usually one screen and you can sit there and calculate your moves before you even have to act, and the obstacles are slow enough not to sneak up on you but purposeful enough if you did not plan properly.

Shaq-Fu: This has a reputation of being terrible, but outside of a really bad jumping system it is not that much worse than a lot of other bad licensed Super Nintendo games. If anything, playing these games makes you appreciate the way Nintendo was perfecting the movesets for Mario-Link-Samus-Kirby long before other developers got the basics right.

Deus-Ex: Human Revolution: It is a fun game and the way you develop your character can allow for very different experiences, but if you take the time to do the side quests and loot everything around you by the last third of the game you can get all of the worthwhile upgrades and you are essentially a superhero. The original Deus Ex forced you more into perfecting a type of character, but a lot of modern audiences would not tolerate that. The storyline about augmentation is pretty heavy-handed, but the idea of it being an intersection of class was already true then and even more so over a decade later.

Deus-Ex: The Fall: It is a mobile version of the same type of game as Human Revolution with some stripped futures. It is buggy and awkward right after Human Revolution, but the biggest problem is that it ends on a cliffhanger that never was resolved because it was supposed to be an episodic series and then it just never was. There would be no reason to play this except as an extension of the other Deus Ex games.

i finished the companion quests but couldn't beat the final boss so I just watched the ending on YouTube haha... as much as I love metroidvanias, I tend to do that a lot with some of the harder ones I guess. the last battle is always too difficult for me! anyway, yeah, really love this game, highly recommend.

btw, without spoiling too much, there's a fake-out point-of-no-return, so if it feels like you're only halfway through the game... you are.

I bought my cousin a month of PS premium or whatever the highest tier is and I’m stoked for him to finally play all the PlayStation games he’s missed.

he’s been a Xbox gamer for life.

I’ve been an Xbox person forever for no real reason other than Xbox was the console I got when I was young. The price change doesn’t bother me so much but it makes me mad for other people. I am thinking of switching to PS for the next gen, unless it’s just as ugly as the PS5 lol

I'm going closer and closer to PC only, mainly only play consoles when I wanna play something with my wife/kids and my oldest kid wants a Steam Deck so we might be a PC family soon enough

I mean a console's look shouldn't deter you lol. The PS5 is probably the ugliest system (tied with launch PS3) of the line but it's undeniably a fantastic system with a library of great games plus for people like you, a huge library of classics.

I think either in fall or winter, I’ll probably start looking into saving and building a PC.

it’s either that or a steam deck.
