I agree with @trevorshmevor about some of those line deliveries (esp the arresting agent reference) but I was also pleasantly surprised by some of the unexpected levity that this movie brought. Like some others have mentioned, my audience laughed throughout at some of the parts that deserved it.

  2. Agreed! I liked the movie was capable of being a little bit silly at times, because real life is silly haha. The agent line in particular I can totally see coming from the mouth of some overconfident officer who envisions himself as the main character

Just got out of seeing it a second time. Much better when you know what’s coming and can really just enjoy it without the expectations

Man, I really loved this. I have some of the same criticisms I’ve read through here, but the sense of unending dread I felt from start to finish makes it really easy for me to forgive some of the plot points I didn’t necessarily love.

This kind of uneasiness is something I crave and seek out in horror and SO few films succeed at doing it at this level for such a sustained period.

It was also just beautifully shot and composed. I’ll be thinking about this for a long time.

My problem is that my sense of dread ended like 15 minutes too early, personally. Also, audiences have the right to stand up and boo anytime there’s a “once upon a time” exposition dump.

    Just got back from it.

I really enjoyed it! I actually super like that it didn't take itself too too seriously, Cage had fun with the role and there was humor even outside of him. Also thankful I didn't go into it thinking it was going to be a pure horror film, the Silence of the Lambs comparison was fairly spot on. Definitely think I did myself a favor by not seeing any teasers or trailers for it before.

Honestly the Bill Clinton photo is a good touch to relay the information to the audience early on that it's the 90s. They hard confirm it later on and it's pretty obvious without it of course but still nice.

Probably need to let it marinate more but I thought this was just alright. I’m much more of a psychological thriller fan than a horror fan so I like that this is where the film leaned, but it just didn’t land. Didn’t love the pacing either.

Nic Cage was obviously incredible but I can’t shake that he looked like Marilyn Manson cast as Moira from Schitts Creek

Same wavelength! I said something very similar earlier in the thread re: Nic Cage’s makeup

Definitely need to watch again and see what I can pick up more of knowing how it plays out now. Have some of the same issues mentioned in here, but enjoyed it overall. Silly question maybe, but Lee was definitely neurodivergent, right? Her behavior/performance felt really familiar and similar in a lot of ways. Or was that more so her being under their control?

The shot of her talking to her mom on the pay phone on the lower level of the stairwell with the exit doors lit in orange and the stairwell above her lit in bright white was so fucking good.

I forget the exact line but the head of the mental hospital’s response about if they checked IDs got a good laugh out of my theater

Same here. That was legitimately a funny scene

  15. Yeah that was really good. The tone shift of that line was such a swing that it came damn close to breaking the fourth wall

Idk how people take these scores seriously.

I've found that most horror-esque films that are a bit more left field get lower audience scores, it's just how it is

Oh I know. Horror in general has always been skewed lower, but it’s just goofy seeing how low that is but Garfield and IF have As. Lol

  20. Loved this. It's rare that a horror movie leaves me with that heavy, uneasy feeling afterwards, and this one did the trick. Really felt like I was watching evil play out on the big screen.

Also really liked the baphomet (I think that's what it was?) imagery used throughout, especially the quick and subtle moments. And of course, the dolls creeped me tf out.

One thing I think worked really well about this that no one’s mentioned is how much this movie kinda fucks with your eyes. There are a lot of visuals that occur that make you second guess or search for something you think you may have just seen, primarily having to do with that black silouhette of what I assume is meant to represent Satan. Many times I thought I’d see it before it’d quickly fade away and couldn’t tell if my eyes were playing tricks on me. That happened with the red eyes too. Reminded me a bit of Skinamarink in that way

Or maybe this was just me and this is a sign I need to call my optometrist on Monday

“Hi there, I’d like to make an appointment. Yeah. I just saw the horror film Longlegs and I think my eyes are rotten.” is a great endorsement to see this flick.

There's so much misconceptions about what CinemaScore is actually tracking, once you know what the scores are actually measuring, the seemingly inexplicable scores make way more sense. It's not a measure of quality /review - it's the opening weekend audience's assessment of how accurately the marketing campaigns reflected the actual content of the movie.

Thus a movie like LONGLEGS gets a C+ and something like GARFIELD or IF gets an A, because they were exactly the movies the trailers presented them as.

They killed the post-credits scene! Thank god. There's actually still a performer from the post-credits scene listed in the cast credits roll. See below:

20 years after the end of the movie, adult Ruby Carter has become a devil doll delivering nun, following in Harker's mom's footsteps as a result of Harker being unable to destroy Ruby's doll. Really goofy, took things from Neon/A24 territory and straight into bottom-tier Blumhouse schlock. The actress who played adult Ruby Carter is still credited in the final film.
