having the summer wave this early sucks, usually June has been a pretty chill month and it doesn’t kick off until mid-late July. Instead it started in June and July is looking rough.

that variant heat map can be somewhat hard to understand, but basically any time any of the variants listed on the left have a purple box, that means they share that mutation on their spike protein (all those things listed across the top). The top one is XBB which is last summer/fall’s variant that the vaccine was for. You can see how many white squares it has compared to the other variants listed under it with purple for that same part, so it’s very different and thus the antibodies don’t line up well. Jn.1 is the next line down and is way more similar to the other 3 variants below it, aka all the “KP.x” variants Topol is referring to. So hopefully Jn.1 antibodies, which will be what Novavax’s vaccine will provide, will work against those variants.

 

I haven't gotten a COVID vaccine since the first three boosters. So a year or two? Should I get one now? Or wait for whenever the new one comes out?

 

Crazy how "Biden got Covid under control when Trump couldn't" has not been front and center of the Dem's messaging. Maybe they have data showing it could politically backfire, but it seems like an easy score to me.
