Yeah all Part 121 (what you typically think of when you think airlines) pilots and flight attendants are paid hourly!
I’m a first officer for PSA Airlines, which is a smaller regional airline owned by American Airlines, they own two more regionals, and the three regionals together are named American Eagle (which you may have heard of). We basically bring people from places like Jacksonville, and get them to American Airlines hubs so they can take their mainline (what most think of when you think flying, those airlines are Major airlines) flight to their destination.

Back in the day this was all done by American mainline, but after a plane crash in 2009 (not an American Airlines plane), the FAA raised airline pilot hiring hour requirements from 250 hours to 1500 hours. This caused a pilot shortage, making it harder for mainline airlines to afford the hit going to these smaller airports. So mainline purchased smaller airlines and made them fly these less desirable/cost efficient routes and put smaller aircraft on them to fix the problem.

Hoping to get on with United or Southwest soonish but pilot hiring has paused due to the Boeing issues/the issues with Rolls Royce engine parts on certain aircraft. So looking like probably next year sometime

I think everyone should at least do a test flight at some point in their life. Sometime during the fall/winter, so it’s not as turbulent.

Helps people who are scared of flying at least understand what’s happening, and see that planes want to fly, and putting their hands on the controls during turbulence you realize the plane will fly itself back to equilibrium without us touching a thing.

Most flight schools offer an intro flight for $75-100

The new flight sim is so realistic that you could learn the basics on there, if you know someone with actual experience. It’s just much more jerky and abrupt than the real thing

American Eagle runs flights for AA out of my local regional airport so yeah I'm quite familiar with them actually hah

Yes we are not paid until the all of the baggage doors and passenger doors are closed. Personally I think that is fair for the pilots, but flight attendants should be getting paid from when we are all supposed to be at the aircraft (45 minutes prior to departure). Thankfully some of the major airline flight attendant unions have been successful in negotiating that in the past couple of months.

Yeah I think it’s absolutely outrageous when flights get delayed let’s call it 10-12 hours or such and the flight crew is not even paid for those times.

Like as a passenger of the flight I’m mad, but would suck so much more if I was stuck there for work and not even paid for it

Yes that is why we always rush if there is weather coming in/the president is flying in. Much nicer sitting there at the gate making money, than sitting there for no reason lol

I think we fly seasonally into there, surprisingly being based in Philly, I have never flown that flight.

I think Piedmont handles the NYC stuff mostly. Their planes are much smaller and more hot lol
