I'm not orangehorizon, but yes, it's not on free tv tonight. German football tv rights are a huge shitshow since a few years, esp. since amazon came in.

That's shitty for the huge Turkish and Austrian demographics.

It's also shitty for every demographic that's a football fan. We all have to pay mandatory fees in Germany to fund the publicly owned tv and radio stations (it's like a tax). Everyone can receive those channels and u can also live stream them on your phone. Most of the games are shown here, but not all anymore.

There's always a big debate in Germany about the mandatory funding of these broadcasting stations. I am very willing to pay for public broadcasting, but i think there's an argument to be made that football is such a big, deeply enshrined part of German culture that it is very much in the public interest to show all the Euro games on public television...

I was trying to describe myself to someone

Man, that sucks. Even us over on the Brexit rock have managed to make sure national tournament games have to go out on free to air.

On the bright side: i just went for a run and had the radio broadcast on my headphones, which was kinda more motivating than my usual workout playlists.

  12. It’s funny to me that every transfer these days is deemed as “complicated”. I get there are different details involved in certain deals. But I don’t understand why “complicated” is thrown out there so often lol

I assume it usually just means one club doesn’t agree on the price with the other.

if a transfer wasn’t “complicated” it would be that much harder for these guys to justify the unnecessary daily “updates”

playing the game of closely following the transfer window rumor circus means accepting a balance of 90% bullshit of posturing and rehashing non substantive bullshit with 10% meaningful update

I agree that the public broadcasters should show all games. But since the price of the rights for these huge events have skyrocketed in the last decade, I can understand that they have a very hard time to defend making bids for them. I personally am all for it but there are people that don't watch football or people that prefer other sports that had a very good point when they criticized them spending so much money.

And I don't know how they decide which games are shown on ARD/ZDF this year, but they definitely fucked up not selecting Austria-Turkey. I mean even if we ignore all the Turks living here, thats a game that you want to see.

  15. I enjoy the craziness of the window for a couple different reasons. One, it provides some optimism for clubs that haven’t had much optimism the last 2-3 months of the season. Often me haha

Two, and the main reason I enjoy it, is because it does help me discover players across Europe. Obviously, the big names get most of the attention. But being linked to random guys in France or Sweden or Netherlands makes me go read up and watch YouTube videos of them. And then I end up doing the same for a few of said players teammates. And it helps me keep up with what other clubs are doing so when I pick a random game to watch I have some players to seek out and pay attention to.
