He’s been a little too petulant this match but I generally agree

 

I can forgive petulance when the ref is truly god awful

I just saw a replay of Pulisic trying to shake all the refs hand and he got the assistant ref but when he went to shake the head ref, ref was like NOPE.

The advantage with the yellow card situation blew my mind.

The Adams yellow was bad but to me, the decision to take a yellow card out then quickly throw your hands up and call advantage is so not in the nature of a professional referee’s instincts that it has to be questioned somehow.

I didn’t watch the second half, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen an offside/onside call this close.

 

Finally watched the England vs Slovakia extended highlights back and it’s highlighted just how inept southgate is as a coach.

Look at what the best teams in this tournament have. Spain, Austria, Germany, Switzerland. They have a system, built on profiles and relationships, with flexibility for different opponents and situations.

We have none of that, we just try to cram in the “best” players like Trent and Foden, even though they just don’t work for us at all.

Take the left hand side, which anyone with eyes can see is a problem. Shaw wasn’t fit, so we needed another left back, but instead of choosing Tyrick Mitchell he chose Trippier who needs to invert. Okay, but then ahead of him instead of choosing Gordon for width, he chooses Foden who also wants to come inside. This is BASICS. This is stuff people who have played 10 minutes of Football Manager know. For example, Spain took Grimaldo who is an unbelievable wingback, but knew they needed a more defensive player due to their wingers, so chose Cucurella. Similarly, Germany dropped Wirtz last game despite him being the Bundesliga PotY. System over names.

And, there’s no relationships there. Ask any Arsenal fan, and the Saka, White, Ødegaard pod is unbelievable. What do they do? Fall out with White and then not play a progressive passer at right 8 (or one at all). So now Walker is looking cooked, we have no similar right back in the squad to replace him with. And what does Kane need? Runners. Well, Foden and Bellingham aren’t runners, and Saka looks isolated. Who was Trent supposed to even aim for, he doesn’t have anyone but Saka stretching the defence.

It is a complete failure of coaching from Southgate and Holland.

 

TLDR: Southgate fucking sucks. Genuinely the worst coach at the tournament.

 

Don't worry, he'll be gone soon if Xhaka turns up.

That’s so frustrating to see de ligt move. He’s been our best CB since arriving, we invested a large sum that won’t be recouped, and we are going to replace him with Tah, seemingly. While a solid player, he simply isn’t as good as de ligt. This is the lingering effects of Tuchel who didn’t like de ligt, benched him for no apparent reason, and created a rift between player and team. I hate that guy so much.

 

I could list almost 10 guys I’d want to see sold that are less important to the team and more easily expendable.

Goretzka, upamecano, Coman, Gnabry, sane, Laimer, mazroui, Kimmich, boey. Why sell the guy who should be leading the backline?
