Putting on my "thinking like a laynard wearing Dem op" hat for a sec. Just in terms of optics and narrative a couple Dems who I think could be more electable than Harris or Newsom in this moment. Not saying they are good or have good policies, just that they seem the most normal and presidential without baggage, and have compelling stories Americans would like.

Tammy Duckworth - Female Asian American disabled Iraq War veteran, helicopter pilot, certified Daughter of the American Revolution, and was the first sitting senator to give birth in office

Mark Kelly - Astronaut, Gulf War veteran, fighter pilot, husband of Gabby Giffords (who would become first lady)

Hospice made him stronger. He’s building 200 more houses. The nurses are begging him to stop, but he can’t.

I do agree he is definitely better, but I also think that if the Dems actually do go thru with the longshot and unprecedented step of replacing Biden at this point in the game, they should do it with someone younger than Biden not older

That would be ideal but just speaking for myself since there isn’t someone younger that’s been named that wouldn’t essentially continue Biden’s pathetically bad policies I would rather take a bit of a chance and put on Bernie who will actually fight to get bold things done and put people in place who want to help people, and of importance right now I think would at least attempt to pressure Israel to stop its murder campaign. Trump is still a deeeeeply flawed candidate and that’s an understatement, I think Bernie could actually win and what a win that would be.
But of course the DNC would absolutely never allow him to be president, I truly believe they’d rather Trump win, and so it’s a moot point.

Because that reasoning isn’t right either. There a small % of the money going toward’s those things, but the vast majority of it is going directly towards renewable energy projects and expansion. I think he’s mixing up the IRA with the Infrasturcure bill, which has like 8-9 billion in it for carbon capture tech IIRC (which is still way less than what’s in that bill for electrifying the grid!). The vast majority of energy spending in the IRA is green energy/update related. The only “bad” part of the IRA green energy wise is there like 750 million in there for development of better biofuels. The part of the IRA that even mentions carbon capture is part of a broader tax provision where industrial plants can get 30% tax credits for investments in new tech to reduce transmissions, of which carbon capture is mentioned amongst others. That tax credit has been funded to the tune of 5.8 billion. That’s not even anywhere close to the hundreds of billions going towards actual green energy production/energy grid updates.

edit-also feels like I should mention the IRA also allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices, sets a minimum corporate tax rate for any company making over a billion, puts a tax on stock buybacks, and is the reason why the IRS has been getting more revenue from rich people. If you can convince me the post-Jimmy liberals are doing any of that, I’ll say it’s a liberal bill at worst. It certainly ain’t “centrist” lol

There are some decent dem governors or senators that could easily win this election if Biden was never running, but at this point they might be too far behind.

honestly tho, that might help. Just anyone who can speak a sentence should be able to win over these guys. If Biden does a week before the election the turnout boost for “anyone else” would be a big deal.

Dude the IRA is what doubled the 45Q tax credits, 45Q is the tax credit for CO2 capture. Yes then industry whined it wasn’t enough so they get billions and billions more in the next bill. The IRA also increased title 17 loans for carbon capture facilities. You are downplaying things you don’t really know much about. Nobody “left wing” thinks these are left wing policies so why are you telling everyone that actually cares about left wing policies they’re wrong.
there is some good renewable stuff in the IRA but it’s so mixed with bad stuff that it’s hard to celebrate too much because it’s just not good enough for the climate crisis. Plus it still relies on the private market which is hardly left wing. You can try defend this stuff without calling it something it’s not, that’s all.

no like, i know it's funny, but legitmately what's the reason why the dems dont put ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE? Like, do they honestly believe that Biden is legit the only human on earth that could beat trump because he'll get the older vote, white vote? etc.?

    Legit. What is this rationale?

  15. It absolutely is centrist, these are all things that centrist parties in real countries advocate - well not really because they don't really have to because they've already been in place for decades or the system just doesn't have the need for them.

now look at the cost of extending those tax credits vs. how much is being spent on green energy production. It’s a left wing bill that has some provisions in it that aren’t left wing.
