This is pretty much how we do it and just end up Zelleing each other back and forth for bigger purchases which is fine for the most part.

 

we closed our separate accounts and opened a new saving and checkings account at a local credit union. so much easier for bills and going out. doesn't matter who "pays" it's one account.



















however I can no longer hide big purchases from her anymore lol

 

We merged nothing lol we divvy up our bills and that’s really about it

 

Exactly this rule. The fun money is no comment, no limit. As long as you are covered by the money in your personal checking account, I cannot say no and neither can she. She could set her money on fire and I can buy all the vinyl I want. It’s beyond our shared savings and all our normal life stuff is covered in the remainder of our shared checking account.

It’s not for everyone, but I will tell you that my wife and I have been married almost 15 years and together for almost 20, and we NEVER fight about money with this spending style. We may disagree but at least we start with something that we both agree on and doesn’t deprive one or the other of something that brings them joy outside of our marriage or kids.

 

I wish I was good at budgeting. My dad had like 5 different debit cards for different things with labels written on them like "groceries", "clothes", etc. so that him or my mom never went over on something

This was my (recently stolen) single speed cyclocross bike that I painted myself.
