Case in point the post in another other thread on this website, complaining that when people mention Parker’s issues, everyone still talks about the music lol.

I don't take it personally at all it's just annoying that certain threads/artists get total passes whereas others get these reminders/posts constantly. Blink took TSSF on a MASSIVE tour.

Blink gave TSSF a TON of money and exposure. Certainly more than the handful of people in this thread. Do we boycott Blink? What about the bands/producers Blink has worked with? It's a long list.

  3. I guess I just don't get how, if you aren't someone who is ignoring this and pretending it's not bad, that first post would feel like "bothering" you at all. It's not like he's starting conversations quoting people demanding a response.

I mean yeah it would certainly be nicer if everyone was like yep, that's the bad shit, here's how I've grappled with it, lol. Instead of the most defensive posts of all time

There are plenty of threads on this site for bands with shitty members. I am not in there every single day. You don’t have to fret much longer. This conversation will die down and you can go back to talking about the band

  5. Okay I mean I get this to some extent, it's obviously a lot harder to boycott Blink who was once the biggest band in the world, but also, have you read the Blink 182 threads on this site lol? I would not describe them as getting a total pass

Blink sucks for doing that. I am on the record as saying that sucks. You can untangle the thread of connections as far as you like. Whatever makes you feel comfortable. If you think blink and blink’s collaborators should be boycotted because of touring with TSSF, that’s up to you

Also, you guys know you don’t HAVE to respond when people bring up a legitimate accountability issue is these threads right?

If you don’t think it’s over the line for you, or you just don’t care, that’s entirely your business. But by arguing, you all just waste everyone’s time and make this an unpleasant place to be.

I don’t care if you do it so long as you respect that others choose to not respond or are at their own peace with enjoying and/or supporting the band. My entire issue is when people begin to be insulted.

Not insulting people, or coming in with the attitude, would prevent most of the arguments.

hey can you yell at armsliketeeth for insinuating that ohthewater had some ulterior motive for looking at old DMs between the two of them?

That entire DM stuff was drifting into a separate conversation entirely.

But, yeah, unnecessary accusations were made that would have been better if armsliketeeth sent them as a private message instead of making things personal in the thread.

  11. Very early on in Chorus I had a DM conversation where with Jason where I identified the source of the tension re: accountability on this site as the disconnect between our (lack of) power as forum posters and the concept of "accountability" requiring, you know, exactly that power in most situations. One of the most frustrating things about this situation is if there was ever a scenario where absolutepunk dot net posters could've held someone accountable it would've been Harry Corrigan, alas.

Anyway my point is/was, everyone needs to remember that no one is trying to hold forum posters accountable for listening to problematic artists. And if you are that's silly and you should stop. That's where I get my thing about this being about grappling with it and taking it seriously more than what conclusion doing that ultimately leads you to. It's not ultimately about the people on this forum.

(I don't think Spo was trying to hold forum posters accountable here but it's happened on this forum before so I can see how that would contribute to defensiveness, I guess.)

"Awareness" as trite as it is might be a better word because really the idea is to bring people in to want to hold artists accountable. I just really constantly think about how it's framed as "accountability" but that's just not possible from a forum lol. You can't get there from here

Right? Literally the day it came out Mark had cancer we were still in the thread discussing Skiba and his Nazi affiliations. Like you said, not a total pass

Yeah the inciting incident here was just me trying to get an easy dunk on Parker. Arms immediately jumped to the “no one in here is bad” thing. That’s never been what I’ve been saying. If you try to twist what I say or willfully misinterpret my posts, I am going to insult you. I don’t know when the shift happened to people not being allowed to be mean

Diving into this for the first time. Have never supported this band financially in any way, but I loved Proper Dose. Let's hope this is good!

Proper Dose is one of the 5 pop punk albums I actually go back to. I’m more afraid that this will feel like a step back

Welp, it does go by fast. Overall, it is definitely faster paced than Proper Dose, a combination of the vibes of Proper Dose and their earlier records.

Overall, I really enjoyed my first listen and liked all the songs that I hadn't heard yet. Will this have the staying power of Proper Dose? I think it too soon to say, although the chances seem slim. However, it is a record that I will definitely be listening to multiple times over the next few days. I can't imagine fans of this band (be it just Proper Dose or their entire catalogue) not enjoying this record. It's good.

Quality post. Attempting to hold posters accountable on a forum for listening to music of their choice is just more of the same virtue signaling and slacktivism that's become quite tiring on the internet over the last decade.

Listen to whatever you want, and allow others to do the same.

Spo is absolutely trying to hold posters accountable and it’s silly to act like that’s not what they’re doing

None of what anyone does on this site is victim forward it’s all to look good in front of your peers and caring about who’s getting a pass for what on a fucking forum is embarrassing and all the people who take part in that shit are assholes. And huge hypocrites
