Nothing about how you've conducted yourself is putting you on a "level playing field", either. You can't preach to and shame people for their opinion on something, and then just pull the "ignore me" card the second you get pushback. If you are going to assert that someone is wrong for enjoying music, you should absolutely expect pushback for that opinion. I said all the way back in my very first reply that you are just as valid in your inability to separate the art from the artist as I am for my ability to continue listening. You have removed that nuance from this discussion, yet want to act like you've done nothing to stir the pot.

 

I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't share it, but I'm pointing out that the way it's addressed always leads to the same type of argument, which turns into something that doesn't even address the issue you're pointing out.

Due to:

1. Most, if not all, of the people here already knowing the situation because it's been addressed multiple times.
2. Accusing people of "defending the rapist" if they listen to the music.

The second point just flares up emotions because someone might feel they are being accused of defending the drummer of NP, a band most don't listen to, simply because they like and are discussing the music of this band. In reality, the same person you're bringing awareness to will agree with you that Parker's relationship is bad and toxic, but they're going to be focused on the "defending a rapist" comment.

I think bringing up the issue can be done in a way that doesn't step on toes and lead to arguments

You seem to be defending a hypothetical person if you yourself are able to understand that I am speaking both to people defending Parker and the people defending Harry. If you understand the nuance, argue for yourself.

 

I'm not speaking of anyone defending Parker because no one has been defending Parker. You used the phrase "defending the rapist" when no one was doing it. That's what I'm saying.

Until you commented, the only thing being defended was why Parker chooses to stand still on stage.

 

I don’t really know what the argument is, then, if no one in here is on Parker or Harry’s side? Why respond to me if you are not monetarily supporting Parker or Harry? Those are the people I am speaking about. I’ve been explicit about that multiple times.

 

Because there's a difference between "defending" a rapist and checking out music when it's available to stream. The latter of which is the only thing most people here are guilty of.

And I have not “shamed” a single person for doing that? Go back and read the thread, I've actively encouraged people to do it if they can come to terms with Parker’s actions and feel comfortable.

The post where I say that initially is in response to arms asking what albums he is allowed to listen to. I did not come in here and tell everyone that they are defending a rapist by listening to the band. I said I disagree with monetarily supporting them.

 

How do you justify buying their music or going to their shows based off of his actions? Is not your dollar a form of support?

 

Shut uppppp! Why is there like 3 pages of arguing. This forum should just be to talk about the music and the art, who’s listening to story so far because theyre fans of all the members personally? Let’s just be music nerds and discuss the music that we’re fans of

 

I will also go on the record and say it requires very heavy mental gymnastics to disown No Pressure but still feel comfortable supporting TSSF. If you acknowledge the harm that Harry has caused is enough to boycott one band, why wouldn’t you carry that same effort over to the face of both bands: the man that could have picked anyone else in the scene to be his drummer for a side project but chose a rapist. I know very little about this band/scene, but I am aware of the draw that Parker has. No Pressure does not have anywhere near as many eyes on it, or dollars in its pocket, as it does without him at the front.

Why do I need to justify what I spend money on to you? You and your opinion are nothing to me. You're a faceless stranger on an internet forum. I have attempted to say rationally a number of times now that I do not support the actions of these people, but your failure to understand the nuance of that has caused you to embarass yourself with petty insults.

Is it really that fucking much to ask that we can talk about music we like on a forum designed for talking about music we like?
