I will never forget being straight up 16 years old trying to post about pop punk bands on this website and actual grown men in their 30s telling me how shitty of a person I am for listening to them

 

I’ve been trying not to blow up about it and I’ve said my piece in the Bmth thread but the same 3-5 people are obsessed with making a huge to do about it every time a band they’ve personally cancelled still has fans yet they have no problem listening to certain artists and bands with associations just as bad if not worse than the shit they go around bullying people for listening to. block list is adding up but I can actually talk about music in peace without worrying what some weirdo thinks about my morals

 

Lol. I have PMs from you going back 5 years where you complain about me being mean and you excuse yourself for only being 18. What’s your excuse now? My statement is the same as it was then, I will quote myself from 2019:

“No one is saying you're a bad person, I'm just saying that you should be more critical when monetarily supporting artists. You are an active participant in a harmful scene and you can choose where and how to spend your money.”

What’s your excuse now, as an adult? Maybe you should ask yourself why you constantly find yourself defending men like this

 

This is genuinely weird and concerning that you just had receipts from when I was a literal high school student locked and loaded. I'm entitled to listen to whatever the fuck I want and I do not owe you any explanation. You really need to hop off the high horse cause you're actually embarrassing yourself at this point. Once again, I'm not defending anyone/anything but my right to listen to what I want and you're out of pocket for accusing me of anything more.

I have a job where I work with survivors on a daily basis, Jake, of course I am not going to use kid gloves speaking to dorks willing to argue about this. I have been explicit on where I stand since I’ve been on this dumb site: listen to who you want. Ignore me if you want. But don’t get mad if I say monetarily and vocally supporting rapists and the people who give them power is bad. If me saying that is enough to rile you up, I think you need to think more about yourself than you do about me

 

Seriously imagine going up to somebody in public wearing a Story So Far shirt and telling them how shitty you think they are like that's remotely similar to how a well-adjusted person acts.

Again, this isn’t a weird pet peeve I have with the band or a gray area. Parker Cannon is in a band with a known abuser. Currently making music and touring and giving him a platform. Dismissing it as “cancel culture” or whatever is insane

 

No one in here is defending a rapist. The rapist isn't even a member of TSSF.

Let's not try to build a bridge between enjoying TSSF's music and supporting a rapist in No Pressure.

 

Yall just need to block the absolute loser that is ohthewater and move on normal people don’t care this much about what strangers on the internet listen to so I hope he gets the help he needs but in the mean time stop enabling

 

It is not a far bridge to build. Supporting this band is supporting a person employing and promoting a rapist

Do what you want but I’m gonna hound you about it forever lol yeah and they always pick and choose who to crusade about when Kendrick has a rapist on his album it’s “that’s the point I can just skip that track it’s okay”

 

Maybe I have considered there’s more important shit in life than tripping up over who did what bad thing and whether or not it’s bad enough to listen to anymore and if other have made the same choices I have regarding what not to listen to but if your life is empty enough that this is a worthy thing to spend your time on then bless your soul

 

There are plenty of terrible people making music, and making music with people I enjoy. It sucks, and I try to stay knowledgable in terms of who I promote/monetarily support. I don’t know what Jake is talking about (maybe Kodak on Kendrick’s album, which sucks and he sucks and Kendrick is problematic in his own right), but I am absolutely comfortable calling myself out for my own hypocrisy.

 

People are complicated and can be hypocrites. Crazy.

 

I do think it is worthy to call out a band this big in a community this small. I am obviously causing ripples, so my posts are effective. Some people push back, some people think. If I get one person to change their mind, that’s okay.

 

Feel like you should acknowledge that you’re currently spending just as much time being worked up about his posts

 

It is 100% not bullying people by reminding them that someone they are supporting payrolls a rapist and if they want to continue listening or supporting that's fine, it's their line to draw, but to have an issue with somebody simply keeping that knowledge active is bizarre

 

I am telling you, it is not worth it to instigate haha. Just let it be. It’s alright
