  3. Haha, exactly! The biggest thing I've learned is that everyone is to some degree "faking" it. Everyone has a version of imposter syndrome. The moment you're in leadership meetings and see how things are actually decided it's like when you become an adult and you're like "oh, I thought when I got here I'd now know how things work" and you discover your parents were just faking it and winging it.

Heh. Senior software engineer here. I took like half of a CS 101 class as a CS major before deciding it was too hard and switched to IT. Never did any coding in school after that other than two HTML and CSS courses. Learned on the job though, had a lot of great mentors.

True story, I tried at multiple points when I was younger to start a website. At one time I even bought a domain name. Just couldn't commit to it on my own, and any time I tried to work with people, no one was interested in actually doing any work. It was not to be, so now I just live vicariously through other people's websites.

I used to have a website where I just made a bunch of webcomics using videogame sprites. Had no idea how to write HTML and just pirated Dreamweaver after starting out on Freewebs and Geocities.

Thanks Bob & George and Kidradd for the inspiration

I've reached an existential crisis about being a copywriter in advertising. I love to write and I'm pretty damn good at it. But it's all in service of something that is making the world a worse place. Whether it's ad dollars propping up social media companies that have too much power over our daily lives, helping companies put the best possible spin on why they are falling short of their climate change goals, or simply encouraging people to never be satisfied with what they already have, I'm struggling big time with working in this industry. Yet my skills don't easily translate outside of the industry.

Yeah, if you aren't a fan of education, you're in for a rough time in those fields. Constant learning the newest things that change seemingly every month

Or you have to maintain java code written in 1993 that hasn't been updated since, which we only just rewrote in 2017

It's not that lol. I'm in IT with an infrastructure background so I'm totally fine keeping up with what's new and changing. It's the lines and lines of code that kills me. I have to know some coding, but I couldn't bear to have to look at it allllllllll day every day. JavaScript can eat my ass

I took C and Java courses in college and had to take all of them twice before I passed them. I would rather die than code, and I'm not sure if that's hyperbole.

Haha totally fair. Although Typescript and Ecmascript make JS a little better and easier to read by introducing things like variable types and actual classes. A bit more java-like. Still a mess though.
