That’s easily my favorite song of his within the AMITW era. Lying On The Hood Of Your Car is probably my other top favorite from this era.

In my mind it is canon that Upside Flowers is the sequel

Kinda interesting/odd that it's credited as "Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness & Something Corporate" but whatever.

EDIT: upon further thought I'm going to make a prediction, that this is the lead single for a new AMITW album, and the album will feature a song or two with SoCo and another or two with Jacks. Just a prediction!! Even though his live band IS Jacks, but whatever

New TEN album came in the mail today and new SoCo song comes out next week. What a great time to be alive

Just a way to get more eyeballs on it. Like when Bad Books released their last coupled records and it's all labeled under Bad Books, Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestra to get into all of their fans' Release Radars and playlists.

No I understand that for streaming, that's very common, but the video writes the song as what I stated, not just the metadata. Bad books is just bad books on album art, physical releases, tours, etc. They just add the artists on metadata for streaming boosts.

A lot of the Wilderness stuff just sounds like generic Alt Nation rock which bums me out because Andrew is one of my favorite musicians.

  14. The alt rock musician makes stuff that sounds like alt rock? I don't get this complaint at all.

It’s interesting how Wilderness may be the most consistent mainstream success Andrew has gotten, but people seem way more stoked for the SoCo reunion than any individual Wilderness song or tour

    this is all there is

    seriously though

They show a room full of guitars in the video and my dudes where are they in the mix? I know this is just a preview and maybe just the intro to the song, but I think they could have done a better job of making it a little more SoCo-y to get the hype really going.

PS/Edit - of course they should do what is fun and makes them happy, the sound is just not personally what I was hoping for (and maybe the 2nd song is)

where would i be if i was my brain Prestigious

I personally don't really need guys in their early 40s writing another "If U C Jordan"

Had SoCo continued it likely wouldn't be far off what Andrew has been doing.

I thought his sound got a little less distinct on the last record, but there were still some classic-sounding Andrew songs on there like "Stars."

I also feel like I liked Upside Down Flowers more than most people. Would love to hear him back with Butch again. I prefer that to the Zombies/Tilt sound.

I will take new Andrew any way I can get it. One of the best to ever do it.

Nostalgia and the whole not playing together for 10 years will do that.

The first instrument we hear is a strummed acoustic guitar, one of the most organic instruments you'll find in pop/rock music, and the comments are that it sounds artificial and there are no guitars? The main riff we hear repeated is played on a guitar!

If it sounds digital/artificial, it's probably because it's compressed to hell being a YouTube video, and further manipulated to act as background music.

This. So much of the newer stuff just sort of blends together and is indecipherable from a lot of the bland, unexciting songs one would hear on Alt Nation. It’s not bad, but it’s also not something i’m actively seeking out. It’s a shift in sound that is intentional and good for him for following what he likes.

Realistically give me The Glass Passenger over anything in his discography. Crashin, Spinning, Drop Out, Annie Use Your Telescope. Fuck man, what an album.
