It is a pretty effective tactic that admittedly did not begin with Elden Ring, but there's nothing like opening a literal door to adventure.

Fallout 3 is the first one that comes to mind for me

Microsoft needs to give Josh Sawyer that Baldur's Gate 3 budget he wants. Pillars 3 might end up the greatest RPG ever made.

 

They don’t have that kind of foresight, that’s why bg3 happened the way it did.

 

They certainly don't have that kind of foresight when it comes to games. If they had the kind of foresight for games the way they have for other parts of the industry, they'd be unstoppable tbh.

But if you're gonna throw a budget like that to someone, it might as well be someone like Sawyer. Could be wrong but that seems like a wide open lay up.

 

The problem is, that type of money comes with a lot of strings attached in a company with so many stakeholders.
BG3 would be a boring sanitized mess if it came out of MS.

 

This new AC combat isn't what I hoped it would be.
