Thought the same thing and all I come up with is whatever goes on at the training ground? Stuff like player development, tactical instructions (even though these will be spoon fed by the technical director). It's not something I could agree to haha.

trusting Custis about United stuff is like letting your dog eat chocolate- you don't do it

  5. Not sure how it’d be harder now vs last year. He’s now in the last year on his contract. No sign of an extension with Chelsea. And the manager that fought to keep him last year is now gone.

    Managerial market's gone mad, truly

Well, ideally you only pick managers that suit the system you want (roughly), and trust your DoF/SD and scouts to identify what the manager says he needs from a position.

The manager should have SOME say in this, but this is actually how you don't end up signing Antony for £86m just because your coach likes him. This is a much, much better way to run a club and is how clubs like Brighton work. Arsenal too, although Mikel has a bigger influence there.

That’s how American clubs in all sports run, really. With the general manager putting in the philosophy, hiring the coach or manager to implement that philosophy and the player acquisition is more based on the front office plan than the coach.

Custis just copy and pasted the typical guidelines most successful clubs that run a DoF based structure use as a baseline and has reported it as if they’re some kind of commandments written in stone. The actual operations are never going to be gone about so rigidly.

    Here’s an example:

United need a back up/rotation striker to compete with Hojlund next year, preferably someone a bit older who can provide some experience off the bench but is also capable of leading the line for an extended period of time if need be.

They will surely be looking at someone like Guirassy from Stuttgart who has just had an incredible goal scoring return for 23/24 and has an extremely low release clause for today’s market. They’re surely not ruling him out because he happens to not be 25 or younger.
