most likely yeah, I don’t know if the surveys ask for specific job descriptions or just ask how many hours you work at specific jobs.

and yes it’s a lot of people, but it’s roughly in line with what we were at pre-pandemic, when wages were lower and everyone was saying the economy was good, which is the main point a lot of the folks like stancil are trying to make. We had similar folks in similar situations 5 years ago but there wasn’t all this doom and gloom about how “bad” the economy is or talk about it being a “recession” and etc.

just because something is in line with the numbers pre pandemic doesnt make it good lol idk man i was struggling pretty hard even before the pandemic actually the best ive ever done in my life was when i was getting a ton of unemployment during the pandemic but if the best we can do is 'look its the way it was before the pandemic' its simply not enough. the doom and gloom outlook comes from the fact the pandemic opened up a lot of people's eyes to how close a lot of us are to being fucked financially from one small accident, and hell a lot of families ARE fucked financially because of medical costs incurred during the pandemic. you cant pretend things are okay because the numbers are the same as they were 5 years ago.

but again as I already said, that’s not what people are saying. “The economy is in good shape right now” =/= “everybody is okay and we don’t have to do anything else”. It’s saying “the economy is good and is improving for people at the lowest end so keep electing us so we can keep improving it”.

matt y is a big dummy but I do find myself agreeing more and more with this theory that well off people will gladly hand the keys over to fascism if it means they get a tax cut and the economy works for them instead of poorer people, not necessarily because they agree with Trump about elections or immigrants or etc

    Lol

  13. Wonder if that's due to the President's own party fucking hating him.
The recent negative slide in economic ratings has mainly taken place among Democrats and those who lean to the Democratic Party: 37% rate the economy positively today, down from 44% in January (but up from 28% last spring).

Weird. Wonder what could be causing that? :chin:

  14. lol, Matt Ys theory that the petit bourgeois are the base of fascism and support it for economic reasons. Right. His theory. lol

There is nothing to argue, it's just the reality we live in. 99.99% of the country's division is rich vs poor. The rich would rather 1,000,000 poor people die than to go a Summer without their beach house.

Right, but that’s the point I think isn’t it? People are mad at Biden for Israel/Palestine so that means the economy is bad? That’s really bad and will lead to worse economic outcomes in the future

  21. The "feelings" on the economy being partisan has been a thing ... forever. The numbers for Dems "feelings" on the economy changed when Trump was voted out, and then when the economy didn't actually get any better, and Biden has done ... jack shit ... he lost them too. So.... numbers go down.

yeah partisanship is part of it but not to the point where majorities think that we’re in a recession when the economy is actually in pretty good shape! This combo of rising wages and high unemployment is something I don’t think most of us have seen in our adult lifetimes
