Completed wild that we've already been in the 2024 election cycle for months (if not years), still got five+ months to go. Meanwhile the UK can just be like "we're having an selection in six weeks" and have that be that

The bigger take away from that for me is regardless of traditional economic indicators a lot more people are struggling than dems want to acknowledge. People are assuming the US is experiencing a recession because so many people around them are struggling to get by with rising prices in important areas like housing and food, and in many fields right now jobs are really hard to come by. I know people who have been on the job hunt for over a year with nothing but rejections. That feels like what they tell you a recession feels like.

Not sure if the media is to blame for people thinking economy being “good” means that their financial situation also should be good.

But just yesterday yet another survey showed 75% of people saying their personal financial situation was good, but only 25% or something like that thought it was good overall for other people. The numbers make zero sense unless you consider that people are taking the doom and gloom they hear/see in the news as an accurate depiction of the economy

see above…large majority of people are reporting that their financial situation is good. The contrast between what people are saying about their own financial situation vs. their impression of the economy overall is wild

You’re parsing different surveys where different people are asked different questions. All I can tell you is nowhere near 75% people I could ask would describe their current financial situation as good. Which is anecdotal but again it seems dumb to just assume all these indicators where people seem to be saying they think things are bad financially are brushed off by dems and economists and just people being misled or uneducated.

I mean these kinds of results keep getting repeated over and over and over again in survey after survey—large majorities saying they are fine personally financially, but saying the economy itself is bad/in a recession/etc
