Which is a problem to me. Kirkman does whatever he wants with his comics, and I get that there has to be some compromise when you're dealing with a now successful television property for a major cable network. But the cliffhanger decision crossed a certain threshold for me. It was the first time I thought that maybe Kirkman (and Gimple for that matter) will sacrifice their creative interests for a business decision. Or maybe Kirkman just doesn't understand how important that scene really is for the fans and the series. I'd find that hard to believe though.

He's done some bullshit in the books too. I love the comic, but he's by no means the greatest writer. Plus he's repeatedly stated he loves fucking with his fans. At this point, TWD is funding all of Skybound's other stuff.

    Cliffhangers are so damn overrated.

Tension and release is vital to shows that play on your emotions so vividly like this.

I feel like a masochist every time I watch it.

Masochism is implying you're enjoying the pain. This is like being a masochist while being tickled with a damn feather duster.

Right, but I'm not saying he's an incredible writer or anything. I think what appeals to me with Kirkman is his ability to push some boundaries and piss off fans. So, yes, the cliffhanger would fulfill the latter, but delivering that Negan scene would have been much more satisfying, and I think Kirkman knows it. I think he's just relenting to whatever business decision resulted in that cliffhanger. He doesn't piss off fans by making them wait for things, he pisses them off by making tough decisions and doing so without apology (until years later, apparently). The cliffhanger isn't a tough decision. It's a lazy decision.

Totally agree. If they had showed who died, the general consensus would be "Oh shit, what the hell are they going to do now? They're powerless!". Instead it's "Who died? Let's find out because we'll just see who's not on set in a few months". Lazy as hell.

Exactly. I expect someone with a C&H avatar to get it.

Hey AMC, do you know what would have been a great cliffhanger? Showing who Negan killed and ending the season with the survivors gathered around them. It would still be a great cliffhanger and the rest of the episode/half season would have hit so much harder.

My boss told me that on Talking Dead, Gimple explained the cliffhanger ending as "the end of 1 story, where dealing with it next season starts the 2nd story."

Which is the shittiest justification I can think of considering neither part of his "story" includes the actual death.

    Give what you can.

I was really hoping for/anticipating between two and four secondary deaths and one major one. Total fucking bum out. From what I remember, doesn't he cave in the skull of someone from every group he meets just to make an impression? So he's treating them the same as every other docile group even though they've killed dozens of his people? Right.

And this is reaching for sure, but I don't think Glenn got pummeled because his hair was very in his eyes the whole time and there was no hair blocking parts of the POV shot.

  11. No way the actors don't know who died. The actor who's leaving the show has to know whether or not he can take other jobs.

I don't really view these 2 as comparable. With Thrones, it's a matter of believing what you saw rather than not even getting a chance to see it.

Regarding the whole speculation surrounding "_____ was seen on set" I feel like Thrones have actually done a decent job hiding it definitively, and with what the trailers show, there's at least some deniability on their end as far as the manner in which he may reappear. The same will go for TWD I imagine. There will be speculation, there will be plenty of rumors, but nothing definite.

At least until Oakhurst pops up with spoiler text, haha.

Yeah I laughed pretty hard when I read that 'not even the actors/writers know who's dead!!' And to people saying that they have 6 months to figure it out... you know they didn't write/shoot this episode last week right?

    I'm Back.

Never been so frustrated in a season finale before. There was literally no point to have this end as a cliffhanger; MAYBE if they did this at the half way point, it would have been fine. But how do they just assume the character's death won't come out before the premier of season 7? Was it not written exactly who died?

Good point, but isn't it possible the actor was the only one told? Still preserves the unnecessary mystery to the entire cast for when they re-shoot this scene (or however they're going to handle it).

I still am leaning towards they just didn't know who they should kill, so they put it off.

Yeah, a lot of problems with the actors not knowing. If so, that makes it a real-life cliffhanger which is even shittier. haha.

My biggest gripe with it is that I don't trust them to handle it wisely in the Season 7 premiere. It's why I hated the first half of Season 6, it was filled with those endings. Glenn might be dead? Let's not address it for 5 episodes. Morgan has a Wolf held captive? Let's not talk about it for a couple of episodes. Rick's RV is being surrounded with walkers and his hand is cut/possibly infected with walker blood? Let's not talk about it the next episode and then jump to the part where he is back at Alexandria, unscathed, never to show how he got out.

The cliffhanger thing is played out. They're more interested in trying to burn up time and give you an ambiguous ending to assure that you have to watch the next episode than they are about trying to tell the story in an interesting way. It's just really cheap. I feel the same at the end of most episodes where I'm like "Eh, that was ok. I've invested this much time already, I might as well watch the next one". Once again, that's how I feel about a scene that should have honestly been really hard for them to screw up.

Filing this under the: "Unintentionally Hilarious - Want This to be True" category however unlikely it may be.

Exactly how I feel. On the bus ride into work this morning I re-watched the last few minutes to see if I could gather any information as to who met Lucille based off where Negan was standing what was visible in the background. But after a few minutes it was just like, why even waste the data? The show has a history of not following practicality anyways so why even seek it out?

The show-runners are relying on the internet gossip of the next 6 months to carry its story and drum up tension for next season, which is gross.

I tried to do that for a little bit, but it doesn't even matter because they jump around. He just points his bat at random people even though he walks in a straight line.

  21. drstrong

    I'm Back.

When Negan says to cut out the kids other eye and feed it to his father, he's pointing to this RIGHT. which means he's standing near glenn and daryl. That's the only hint I've gotten.

If this was a Vince Gilligan show, you could look for little details like that about Glenn's hair. This show couldn't honestly pay less attention to detail lol.

I feel like it would be giving this show waaay too much credit for hiding some sort of easter egg in that last scene that would shed any light on this, and I feel silly for even having looked. Ugh. This god damn show.

BTW, I hope Steven Ogg(Tevor) will be in future episodes. I love the type of character when that actor portrays them. (He was in Better Call Saul for 1 episode as well).
