yeah I think every song on Vaxis 1 averages a minute too long or so but whatever when I put it on I have a good time

Vaxis 1 is solid but leading off with The Dark Sentencer was so misleading for the general sound of the album.

Is this from an interview? If so, any idea where I can find it? If it's a bit of insider knowledge then kindly disregard, I'd just like to see the full interview if it's out there.

Same, something I couldn’t quite put my finger on until Vaxis II, when I realized they do better with a producer that can be somewhat of an editor.

I don’t think Dark Sentencer mislead as far as the sound of the album, but it is definitely the best song there, and releasing it as a single months before the album came out did deflate my initial impressions. They seem to have a hard time leaving the better songs for the album and not prerelease singles. Welcome Home, The Broken, Domino, Sentry and Atlas in their acoustic forms, and Dark Sentencer were all released before their album came out.

That acoustic atlas performance is incredible and I wish it got a real single

Vaxis 1 is very good, I prefer 2 to it but this whole era feels very re-energized Coheed

Idk how y'all can remotely say anything else on Vaxis sounds like Dark Sentencer, that's wild to me. Keep in my mind I still think that album is good, but it's so distractingly different from everything else for me.

Also, IKSSE3 is still so easily their #1 album for me, nothing really comes close

It’s just all over the place, it’s a product of them mostly self producing. Afterman had the same issues, or feature, depending on where you fall. I do prefer for an album to have a sonic palette, and songs like TDS, Old Flames, Unheavenly Creatures, and Night Time Walkers don’t really sound like they’re from the same recording session, which kind of throws me for a loop, even though I like all of those songs to varying degrees.

I do think Love Protocol, All On Fire, and The Gutter fit in well sonically with The Dark Sentencer.

Vaxis I may not be as tight as II and may have a couple low points, but II doesn’t even come close to the highs of I.

I think it comes very close. To me TDS is the best post-Afterman song, but I would put stuff like Beautiful Losers, Love Murder One, Ladders of Supremacy, and A Window of the Waking Mind in the next tier.

Toys is incredible (and highly relatable so I love it)

There are some absolute bangers but I have a rough time remembering songs that aren't Toys, TDS, The Gutter and Unheavenly Creatures and Old Flames when I'm not actively listening to it.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Love Protocol is like the genetically engineered perfect Coheed song

I’m probably in the minority here, but I think Vaxis I is a stronger, more consistent album than Vaxis II is. I have always felt like the flow in the back half of Vaxis II after Love Murder One is just all over the place. I don’t feel that way about Vaxis I at all, even with its longer length in terms of songs and time. I also think Vaxis I has higher highs than Vaxis II. I like Vaxis II, but Vaxis I is in another stratosphere to me

is that a minority opinion because I thought it was the common belief that 1 is way better than 2, even if 2 is a fun album

to note, I also agree that 1 is way better than 2 for basically all of the same reasons you mentioned

if the next one ends up splitting the difference between those 1 and 2 in terms of approach that would be swell

I like II a lot more, I has some amazing stuff on it but also feels way too long for me with a good chunk of the songs being just alright.

I prefer the way Vaxis I sounds from a prod standpoint, I feel like Zakk brickwalls the sound and it's not as dynamic, especially the drums, but I think the songwriting sounds much more invigorating on II, so if I have to pick a favorite to listen to front to back it's that one. I also think a split difference between the two could be cool, but I don't think that'll happen

I greatly prefer 2 to 1 but they’re genuinely both amazing albums

Ladders and Waking Mind are two of my favorite Coheed songs at this point, Rise, Liars Club, just so many standout moments on the album. I think it has a great flow, where as I think Vaxis I has a more samey feel in their songs, I feel like Vaxis II has a bit more dynamic to it but I see people think it’s the opposite haha
