You have to wonder why they don’t have barf bags at horror movie screenings considering someone always throws up

Dang I really thought it was gonna show the scene for some reason

  5. I always assume reports of people barfing or passing out at these premieres is a marketing gimmick.

I think I missed the first trailer or two. Here's what I got before I Saw the TV Glow:

    Cuckoo!!!
    Daddio...?
    Amy Winehouse
Kinds of Kindness! Double Hunter Schafer!!!
    Speak no Evil
    Quiet Place
    Sing Sing
    Maxxxine!!!

I Saw the TV Glow was incredible. I don't know if I can fully articulate right now how much this movie means to me.

as @incognitojones said, there's hardly any horror in the traditional sense, but there's a lot that made me... uncomfortable. but in a good, introspective sort of way. I think it's because I can so closely relate to the experience Jane is trying to convey: growing up in the nineties not knowing you're queer and not knowing why you feel different from everyone else. The film so clearly encapsulates the creeping quiet awkwardness of an adolescence not fully realized or understood. Like We're All Going to the World's Fair, the trans allegory hit too close to home, and yet, because of it, the movie means so much to me, because it makes me feel seen.

But yeah, there are some truly unsettling moments in the film. Some pretty darn cool makeup/costume/visual effects. The lighting is spectacular, the soundtrack is full of bangers, and the performances are so endearing. Justice Smith's line delivery is oddly perfect, from his stifled conversation, to his slightly more eloquent narration, to his frantic screams. The film frequently changes its aspect ratio and audio/visual quality to match the 90s-show-within-a-movie but it's never jarring; in fact, the switching becomes eerily seamless.

We're almost halfway through the year and already we've had a lot of great horror movies, and from the trailers we've been getting, it doesn't seem like that will change. I Saw the TV Glow might not be the best of the year, but I don't think anything will resonate with me more personally. Having said that, I do think there's enough there that it can be appreciated on a universal level regardless of whether you grew up unknowingly closeted or not.

Has anyone seen advance tickets available for I Saw the TV Glow for the wide release? Just wondering if this one theatre is really the only one getting it or if they probably just didn’t release all the showtimes yet.

That’s what I assumed but the one theatre having showtimes threw me off, so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy thinking it was odd. So thanks! Haha

Hopefully they do it soon. I already have a ticket for The Strangers that week, so I’m hoping I can just work out a double feature.

I’m on the fence about seeing the Strangers in theaters. If the response is mostly positive in this thread it may sway me lol
