I have never driven THAT far with my cats, but we do travel with them occasionally. We give one of them gabapentin for longer drives because otherwise he yowls literally the entire time. Sometimes he still does it despite the medicine. Sometimes if its both cats, the noisy one will start and then my other cat will respond, and it becomes an endless symphony. You just have to tune them out.

In 2017 I drove with my cat from Phoenix to Cincinnati. For the first 3-4 hours he meowed basically non-stop. I had the carrier facing me, thinking that would calm him, but it did not. Then I remembered how he loved to look out the windows when driving to the vet so I rearranged the backseat and had the carrier facing the window and he was calm and quiet the rest of the drive.

Every time I stopped for gas I gave him water, food and a makeshift litter box. But he didn't use the litter box until I got to my new apartment haha.

My friend just sent me a supplement she got on amazon that she used for a trip from NJ to FL (she moved to FL)

Going to get this, she said to just sprinkle it in her food and it does well to keep calm.

I am very prepared for lots of howling haha.

My cats make the strangest noises in the car, it's so funny. Sometimes they drop an octave or two and deliver some real guttural meows

I haven’t seen my cat on 18 months (!!!) long story i’ll spare the details but i reunited with her today and i wasnt sure what the adjustment was gonna be like and if she would recognize me but after just an hour she was completely back to her usual weird self and is clearly elated to see me.

    i’m so happy

Thank you but that is an illusion. Not shown are all the swollen places between the joints where we didn’t clean water up fast enough lol

I started volunteering at a cat rescue a couple months ago, and it's been so fun and rewarding (and very difficult not to adopt every single one of them!). It is an amazing facility where the cats roam free within different rooms in the building that are packed with cat trees, toys, etc. And it has the capacity to house cats who may never be adopted due to their temperament and give them happy lives. I keep piling on more shifts because it's such a blast! I only have one cat at home currently, so it's a great way to get my extra cat fix.

That's awesome, I tried volunteering at one, submitted an application, and they never called me :( I even said I could help with computer stuff since I'm a software engineer, but no dice

I was on a waitlist for several months before there was an opening. That's a bummer they didn't get back to you and surprising to me, especially since you have that unique skill. I hope there is another one near you you could volunteer at. My responsibilities are basically just light cleaning and socializing. Every shift there are at least 2 and usually 3 volunteers, so we split up the work and it goes pretty quickly which leaves lots of time for play, pets, and cuddles!

EDIT: Here's the org - Kitty Corner - Conta Costa Humane

Aww what a cutie. 10-11 years for me, got her at around 2 years old in college. Wild how fast time flies! I also call her a goof several times a day.

I don't know if I've ever posted my two cats in here, so here they are! They grey one is Flora and the b/w one is named Daenerys. Flora belonged to my girlfriend before we met and then after about two years of living together, I adopted Daenerys. They're the best of friends, the sweetest angels, etc etc. I'd be lost without them.
