Woah, I never realized that was Dr. Dre! I didn't recognize him with the different hairstyle.

What a dumb way to end the season. All that build up and then....

I was going to watch S7 anyway but thanks for the shitty cliffhanger I guess.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

I was trying to think about that, I think Hershel was the last that really mattered. I didn't really care about Beth, Tyreese was wasted on the show so I never cared too much about him.

This is the exact kind of thing that Chris Hardwick would complain about if he wasn't working for TWD/AMC. I feel like he wants to call Gimple out on this bullshit during Talking Dead.

i get that they wanted this huge climax to be a cliff hanger, but wouldn't it make more sense to show who got the beating instead? and have us talk about how AMC/TWD finally gained some faith between seasons instead of being infuriated?

So glad I stopped watching this show earlier this season. I've still been following along with the story by reading synopses and summaries, and reading forum comments, but watching the show itself just started to feel way too much like being manipulated. Sure, this show and lots of other shows manipulate their viewers all the time, but the way this show has started to do it just feels downright cruel and, IMO, not very respectful of their audience. This quote from an AVClub review of the finale resonates with me:

When you’re telling a story, you want your audience to keep watching, so sometimes you use tricks to keep them watching, but the promise between you and your viewers is that those tricks will never get in the way of the story itself. The tricks will never become the point. But for The Walking Dead, the tricks are all that’s left.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

An interesting thought that I'm sure will piss a lot of you off, but what if when season 7 starts back, it's a time jump and we have to wait another week or two to actually find out who was killed?

Also, I find it hard to believe that there were "hints" as to who it was that died. If not even the cast knows, how are they going to film that without anyone knowing? Plus, weren't we supposed to hear the group calling out for that person, but their voices were inaudible because whoever it was that was getting bashed, was incoherent?

One more thing about the episode, I'm really interested to meet and learn more about this other group. Just to clarify, they are a different group than the group was with who was hung? He mentioned something about all his other people in the library being dead already. I guess that was the same library Carol and Morgan were at?

*let me just spray paint an x on this guys chest before we finish this conversation. Did they expect them torchering some dude they don't even know was going to make them stop? Hell Rick and co. would have been better off taking the first path and killing that handful of people.

Wow if you go on Entertaibment Weekly in the Walking Dead article, the comments are tearing the show and Gimple apart. People are furious

That was a very tense episode, suspense was built very well, not sure how I feel about the cliffhanger yet. I'm not as annoyed by it as other people are but it's definitely going to be a long six month wait

I'm pissed. I don't mind cliffhangers, but it was just a bad one. When they built the tension really well in those last twenty minutes or so I thought there was no way they wouldn't show who dies. It's not that I really even want to know who dies that badly, but the problem is that all that tension was just completely wasted.

Music, Gaming, Movies and Guys = Life

I loved that finale, really tense and a great buildup. The ending might irritate some people but a cliffhanger like that is what keeps me thinking about the show and anticipating the next series, precisely what series finale cliffhanger should do.

Despite the cliffhanger though, they did a great job building up Negan. It was obvious where the "fucks" were supposed to go, but I guess AMC doesn't want to piss off the advertisers. Trevor from GTA V was a fun character too.

I agree: I'm not dying to know who bit the bat. That's not the point of my frustration.

I'm angry that they were essentially handed their own Red Wedding from the source material and they used a telenovela gimmick to end the season.

The Negan scene in the comics is one of my all time favorite moments. It was one of those moments where, when people ask you what TWD is like to read, you immediately think of that scene. It's horrifying. It doesn't leave your mind.

They had a chance to translate that onto the screen and I couldn't wait to witness viewers get a punch to the gut and really experience how brutal that world can be, but no. This half season was so strong, and they decided to interrupt one of the most powerful scenes of the series with a cheap b-movie POV shot and a six month wait. I've been so patient with this show, and I love it when the writing starts to hit its stride, but decisions like this really make me wonder why I still bother watching. I should just stick to the books.

so disappointing. can't believe the people who allowed this are in charge of a show. sad.

    Just The Worst

Based on what cast members have been saying on Twitter about not knowing who dies, I'm starting to really think that the writers hadn't decided who to kill so they went with this. They were so close to creating a monster of a villain by just murdering a main cast member. Now it's just a bullshit wait to find out the answer, which isn't the interesting part. That brutality and fear of Negan culminated to that moment and they whiffed hard.

The problem is also AMC has direct control. Unlike Mad Men or Breaking Bad which were external productions aired through AMC, The Walking Dead is 100% owned by them. Including creative decisions, budget, etc. I feel like to them, any press is good press. Just look at the shit they pulled with Glen under the dumpster.

And just a damn week ago with Daryl getting shot in the arm followed by a pithy "you'll be alright" over the cut to black.

I want to like this show so much, but it's like they're actively saying "fuck you, cliffhangers make great tv" and making it very difficult to follow. The majority of this season was some of the best of the whole series, but these last two or three episodes went right back to gimmick-town.

I'm so irritated right now because, up until this season, I really liked what Gimple was doing with the show. I liked his take on it better than Darabont's or Mazzara's. Season four was a good start and season five was, in my opinion, the best of the series despite some issues I still had with it (the hospital storyline). This season fizzled out fast once they began relying on said gimmicks and has been an incredibly frustrating watch.

The fact alone that Gimple is comparing what he did here to the hatch tease at the end of Lost season one is telling.

Maybe when they cover "All Out War" they'll get back on track? Who knows.

    Just The Worst

That's one of the best cliffhangers of all time, but it worked because it was incredibly mysterious. This was just a way to not show brutal violence (maybe), but more likely was a way to stall so they could decide who they want to kill. The GoldenEye 90's blood on the screen was pretty bad too.

Yes. Gimple has been great, which is why I really never believed they'd pull out a cliffhanger to end this season. There was talk. People were worried it could happen, but I really trusted Gimple to do it right.

...then I hear him on Talking Dead, saying he loves cliffhangers. Ugh.

The problem is Kirkman loves them too. And he's not going to rock the boat with the most successful cable show of all time being based on his franchise.
