I have never once suggested that Pickett is better than Russ. I just said Russ is closer to Pickett in quality of play and people misrepresented what I was clear about

 

you can definitely find posts from me in the last season thread where I talk about Russ's stats being empty calories

but again, when Pittsburgh was losing Pickett still wasn't throwing the ball

He's very good, but prob a tier below. Problem is if all those guys get gobbled up early, he now gets priced like one of those guys because of scarcity.

All good! I realize I’m beating a dead horse here (RIP horse). It’s just been such a bizarre offseason for the Steelers and while I do believe a world exists where maybe the Steelers win a couple more games with Russ than with Pickett and the funky bunch, I do believe in the risk of signing Russ and possibly having their first losing season in Tomlin’s tenure, and the risk it poses to the locker room and vibes

I think signing a guy who has notably rubbed players and coaches the wrong way in Russ and then trading for a guy who has been well-liked in his last locker room in Fields is an odd move. The Steelers are one losing streak of, like, three games away from players calling for Fields (assuming that doesn’t already happen in camp/preseason) and then Tomlin has to manage that.

I know Tomlin has a history managing difficult/shitty people, but I don’t see why he and the team would go out of the way to seek one out. I think it would have been more sensical to keep Rudolph and trade for Fields, then trade away Pickett. Hell, if they wanted to sign Russ so bad, then do that and keep Rudolph and see what happens for a year.

I think bringing in both Russ and Fields invites a potentially concerning dynamic that could combust at any point.
