MGS V Phantom Pain is actually probably a good starting point if you want to play MGS. Ground Zeroes is also really good, but it kinda really just feels like the preamble for Phantom Pain. The overall MGS series lore/story at that point was a Gordian knot of acronyms and betrayal that I don’t think any normal person really understands, but the plot of the game is something you can follow along with pretty easy: Skullface blows up your base and now you gotta go get ‘im no matter the cost.

Gameplay is amazing. Phantom Pain an open world so you can handle missions almost anyway you want, and the game gives you the tools to make it work. It also makes failing steal fun; a botched extraction from an outpost turning into a race to extraction against a tank rules. Missions are also ranked and repayable, so it invites you to kinda fall into being “Big Boss” and becoming a master of MGS stealth/combat/base building/zoo management, if you’re into what the game is doing.

The Master Collection Vol. 1 is very good. MGS 1 is a fun curio but is not the most fun play (still blows my mind that J. Edgar Hoover’s racism is a plot beat in that game), MGS 2 is a wild and challenging piece of art that happens to be a sweet game also, and MGS 3 is a excellent stealth game with maybe the platonic ideal of an MGS story: a vehicle for a bunch of silly fun stealth, sweet action set pieces, and some poignant “thoughts” about humanity and war.

Guess I’m recommending you play any MGS that seems cool and then figuring out if you want to explore the overall story from there. Don’t recommend starting on 2 or 4, but I started on 2 and love the series and I’ve heard legend of people who improbably started on 4 and went back into the earlier games.

As one of, if not, my favorite video game series, I say just go in release order and experience it as it happened. I just personally feel like the best first time experience would be to feel the progression of what Kojima did with each new game. And maybe I’m crazy, but I feel like I wouldn’t have understood the story as much as I do if I didn’t play them as they released.

Also if you want to get super weird with it, try Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2 for PSP if you have the means. It’s a turn-based collectible card tactical RPG and they were actually really fucking good. Definitely a remaster that would bring a tear to my eye if it ever happened.

i am the weakest man on earth

i resubbed to wow. for three months. and im currently unemployed and wont be looking for a job til june at the earliest.

looks like they made it super easy to unlock allied races you just have to go through a scenario for each if youre over level 40 so i just got the void elves real quick so i can make a void elf rogue and start fresh. its been so long since ive even made it to max level in an expansion that jumping on my highest level character who is halfway through dragonflight leveling zones sounds too confusing so im just starting a fresh character. also worth it for the real reason im doing this, seeing old zones for nostalgia and the way leveling works now with the timewalking campaigns is super sick.

but yeah i did not know about so much shit there is in this game now. apparently some limited event called plunderstorm is gonna be replaced with a fresh take on mists of pandaria from beginning to end but with a ton of weird gear game stuff to purposefully break it. and ive barely even looked into classic wow's season of discovery stuff and i would play classic wrath but i saw cata just got announced and i only have a horde level 60 in classic and i wanna play alliance and leveling in classic sounds so daunting but im not shelling out for a boost

Big fan of the first one. I've played through like half of the second one but kinda lost motivation with it.

It's still a solid game. But I think the first one was a tighter package. Second one tries to take the plot / philosophy stuff that was kinda in the background of the first game and make it more front and center but honestly I think it just gets in the way.

Still certainly worth playing if you liked the first. I intend to go back to it at some point. But been working through Can of Wormholes to get my puzzle fix instead will probably go back to TP2 once that is done.

Man, Online Quickplay in RB4 is incredible, it sucks it took them so long to implement it originally but they've made every Quality of Life change I could ever ask for (Drop in/Drop Out Multiplayer, A Messaging system, Showing/filtering DLC that everyone owns, Round-Robin options/Set lengths) and since it seems like only die hards are still playing, whenever I join a lobby it's pretty common for everyone else to own some 500+ pieces of DLC too.

I played about 4 hours of RB today, mostly online and had a blast.

Also, finally wrapped up Resident Evil 4. Think I'm gonna be grabbing Unicorn Overlord when the paycheck hits this week and do that along with Pentiment.

I want to play all of those old Guitar Hero/Rock Band games again so bad but none of my instruments work and I can't bring myself to buy them on ebay for the prices I've seen the couple times I've looked

PDP is putting out a new guitar (pre-orders apparently sold out, but a restock is coming this summer?), its 130 bucks which is a bit pricey but definitely better than buying used RB4 guitars for 200+ bucks.

I wish I could get a like-new Xplorer controller again because that was by far my favorite instrument either GH/RB put out.

The guitar and drums I'm using right now are from RB4, but the guitar's tilt function is pretty meh and the Drum kick pedal isn't ideal, but since I'm not really a score chaser it's fine. I'd love another guitar because I think I'll be having folks play with me on the next game night I host, but we'll only be able to play 3.

I’m kinda surprised there isnt just a new guitar hero/rock band game. Is there any known reasons for why they wouldn’t make them anymore?

There technically is. The people who did Guitar Hero developed Fortnite Festival and it's just guitar hero but not as cool or interesting

Oversaturation of the market in the early 10s, there were just soo many games. RB4 and Guitar Hero Live both came out in 2015, and as far as I know didn't do all that well.
