I saw that in a comment on the TWY Collective Facebook group but figured the person was joking.

Now why did my vinyl sit in the Hatfield PA post office for three days so it won't get here until Monday???

 

So typically with these gatefold vinyl, there is a slot for a record in the front cover and the back cover. With this one, the record was in the back cover but the front cover was sealed. However, it was shockingly hard. A buddy had told me that there was rumor of a bonus 7 inch at the show last night, so I was suspicious. I started feeling around and you could tell it was something circular, like a 7 inch. Either way, it took a little bit of pressure to bust the glue holding it shut, but this was inside:

need to hear that alternate ending

 

Unfortunately, I do not have the equipment to rip vinyl or anything. If things get desperate I can always record a video and message it or something.

 

do we know that it's for sure deluxe edition only?

I do not know that. Mine is deluxe. I wanted the journal. The sticker on the cellophane said it was specifically deluxe, but no way to know until someone who got a non-deluxe checks.

Damn that’s cool as shit. I genuinely couldn’t remember which one I ordered but I just checked and it’s the deluxe hell yeah.

Not getting here until Monday though which is lame.

 

This is exactly what my tracking shows too, except it got there on the 6th and has been sitting there since the 9th. What the hell is going on in that post office?

 

That's actually fast compared to something else I ordered recently, which was just hanging out in the Memphis post office for literally two weeks before it moved.

 

Okay, I'm glad someone figured this out because I was wondering if something was in there but didn't want to bust it open haha

Edit: you can also get to it from the open side but it's a pain

digging into this now, haven't heard any of the singles at all

 

the transition in the first song feels kinda... clumsy to me? I love that chorus on Roman Candles though

yeah sorry but it doesn't work for me. feels like they just copypasted the full band part onto the end of an acoustic track lol

album is very very good though. definitely the most consistent from this project, the previous two have some skips but this is great all the way through. very nice mix too, sounds amazing after Routine Maintenance which... did not. curious to hear the alternate ending but it's hard to imagine a more fitting one than Dead Leaves. that "it's you this time" section is one of the best things he's ever written

 

I think this was an intentional decision for storytelling purposes. Makes it very obvious that he goes from performing by himself and feeling sad about it to the band surprising him and showing up. Then suddenly the magic is back. The song is matching the story.

Totally agree that the record sounds great.

 

I gotta say reading this really increased my appreciation for that moment and the whole record in general. pretty wild that he's out here staging moments in the story live onstage just to reference them in lyrics years later, dude is fucking committed

That’s one of the biggest reasons I am such a fan. How do you not respect someone who is as all-in as Dan? It makes me feel very lucky that the music exists.

I can’t wait for a road trip where I can listen to the full discography in order with the new album.

 

Thanks for posting that link, that interview really adds a lot of context following my first listen of the record.

Gonna need to spend a lot more time with it, but so far thoughts are it's so good. Very curious about the alternative ending, if anyone wants to post a (spoiler marked) summary of that (given I don't think it's on streaming etc. yet).
