I will say that the Getaway didn't do much for me, but I'm With You had a lot of great songs on it. I think I'm With You is better than the two Frusciante albums from last year. Maybe I need to revisit them, but meh. I was hoping for more interesting stuff than what we got.

The Josh vs. John discourse is interesting because I feel like most of their output post-Californication has been fairly interchangeable. You could swap songs from Stadium Arcadium onto I'm With You and vice versa, no one would have been able to tell the difference.

That's weird, I actually liked The Getaway more than I'm With You. Bonus points for the brevity as it was their shortest album in nearly 3 decades.

I like I’m With You quite a bit. I’ve never understood these people that don’t think it’s any good. The Getaway was just ok to me.

But I much prefer these past two Frusciante albums. They feel mostly like Flea and John improvisations and ideas submitted to Anthony to come up with a melody and lyrics for. To me, Anthony felt like the driving force on the Josh albums and everyone was working around his ideas. I could be totally wrong, but that’s just the sense I get.

The Getaway is wildly better than I'm With You.

I'm With You was super disappointing, imo. Had a few OK songs, but nothing to write home about. Rarely, if ever, go back to it.

The two albums they released this year are far superior to both.

The Chili Peppers just sound better with John in the band. The 2 recent records are super solid.

I love some Brandon Toews. His Drumeo breakdowns are great and really thorough!

I haven’t gone to this tour but I get the sentiment felt in the article as I get the same feeling with other artists I have seen from my childhood on their more recent tours (Green Days HellaMega tour comes to mind)…there was a near 15 year break between the times I went to see them and they pulling the same tricks and playing the same songs

coincidentally im going to the Foo Fighters show on Friday to see them for the first time in around 15 years so curious to see if they elicit similar feelings

Yeah, last time I saw RHCP maybe 6-7 years ago I felt the same way. It just wasn't exciting anymore and I love this band. Kiedis also can't really sing anymore

Wild that they are comparing this to the Stadium Arcadium tour when RHCP was already a middle-aged stadium rock juggernaut. I first saw them on the BTW tour in 2003. My perception of them up until then is that they were this "Wiild and KRAZY jam/funk band, man!" but instead it was a show full of mostly pop/rock with some occasional jams. Mind you, this was back in 03 so they've basically continued on this groove (no pun intended) for 20+ years.

Yeah I also saw them in 03 and they were good but it was really just a big stadium rock band-like show

I went last Friday in Buffalo since some friends were on the lawn and had an extra ticket (sold out in advance). I’m totally anti-lawn for ampitheater shows so not sure if that had anything to do with it, but the show was just fine.

First time seeing them live so everything on stage was new to me. For a show that was like $80-$350 it really wasn’t anything crazy at all.

They played the hits, left off some other really big ones. Production was just a giant video wall and lights. Cool Friday summer night but not going to crack the top 10 shows I see this year that’s for sure.

1992 was lollapalooza in Mansfield MA I think was the first time for me.

Mothers Milk was the last album at that point maybe.

Then I Saw them at BU (Actually, that was 1991) with Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam.
