Can subforums be less hidden away? The only way to get to them is from a easily ignored tiny button by the forum stats on the main page (unless there's another button that my bad eyes can't seem to see). I've seen sites with the similar platform have them at the top of the main forum (like the Tour Discussion would be at the top of the Music).

Or am I the only person in the world who blurs out the forum stats when browsing?

Oh...... Yeah it's built into safari. Duh. I totally spaced that. Thank you.

  3. No worries at all. I've thought about this stuff wayyyyyy too much for any normal human. And been so annoyed with huge SHARE ME BUTTONS when I try and browse sites and read articles. ;-p

  4. The other option is from the quick navigation menu at the bottom of all the pages (blue arrow square thing on bottom right), which will pop-up a menu for all the forums.

Currently there is only one subforum available, the tour forum, so that's one reason why it's kind of hidden, I added it just at the end at the request of the tour forum regulars. I may re-think that if I end up adding more subforums.

(The quick navigation menu can also be brought up with accesskey + j on supported browsers.)

For the front page, I feel like everything to the right side is way more intriguing than anything on the left. Why not have pictures with regular articles, or even mix up the feel to make things a little less bland? I feel like the format is going to evolve but the current set up doesn't draw me in like the forums do.

  6. Some articles do have images, when I choose to use them is based on the story, how often I've used them (speed of loading the homepage), and things like that. It's something I've used sparingly so far but will start using more come next week (where the image shows up - right, left, big in the middle, is also customizable), first two days of posting I wanted to focus on making sure that homepage loaded really fast and it wasn't too overloaded with graphics.

    Screen Shot 2016-04-02 at 3.18.56 PM.png

However, it really is by design that it feels that way. I want the right side to be engaging and something that draws people to check out those articles and stories. If you browse the site one every few days, that right side acts like a magazine page to show you what's worth checking out. What may have been missed, etc. They're the biggest stories of the day or things we've been working on highlighting the most during the week (features, interviews, etc.). The left side is mean to be as easy as possible to just read through the news stories. It's supposed to be a little bit "bland" because I want it to be basically impossibly easy to just do exactly what it's supposed to be: readable. That's basically goal 1, 2, and 3 for the news feed. No nonsense, no gimmicks, just let me read the damn news. I want it to be easy as hell to read and more for the kind of person that visits the site on a daily basis and is refreshing it a couple times a day. It's the model for a blog and homepage I, personally, love. I hate sites that give me just headlines on the homepage and big carousels or basically that AltPress homepage in a nutshell is everything I hate about where news sites are today and things like Medium and DaringFireball are where my heart lies.

Alright, fair, I see where you're coming from. Something like Medium I think is definitely more what I was saying, with pictures and readable kind of separating everything, but something between that and that Fireball site seems like a fine choice.

Have you experimented with different colors? It is definitely readable if that's your goal but i do feel its blurring together a little bit. Then again maybe I'm just getting used to it.

The old forum included a sub-forum or thread that was focused on members posting their music and lyrics they had written for critiques and promotion. I think that would a great idea to include as well as a sub-forum or thread for members to collaborate to create projects such as videos, zines and other artistic and blogging ventures. Say if I was looking for some poetry about Xicana feminism to include into a webzine of mine, I could post a thread or reply and wait for someone to offer a piece that I could use. I think that would create a goo community vibe that was present in the old forum.

P.S. Last.fm integration would be appreciated like in the old forum. Spotify integration could work, but the Last.fm scrobbling feature works on a wider scale due to the connectivity to many platforms including Spotify.

Do you have any thoughts on the above post? Maybe us creating a second "share your stuff" post outside of the prestigious forum? I'm curious what you think would be best for that.

  10. Hey, thanks so much for being a member. I'm working on those features you mentioned at the bottom for sure. Definitely want a place on the full profile for those.

Check this thread out in our prestigious forum for the "share your music" kind of stuff that's not just self promotion, but for feedback too: https://forum.chorus.fm/threads/share-your-writing-or-music-thread-w-feedback.497/

I think something similar might work on the music forum as well. Or maybe a separate section just for "makers" as a sub forum for that sort of stuff.

@Jason Tate is there a way to embed an image that you upload rather than grabbing it from a URL? This could be really obvious but I'm not seeing it.

On the more options page there's an attachment paperclip. You can also just drag an image from your desktop onto the posting box (this works on quick reply too).

i do think a creators forum would be really useful in that currently there's a guitar thread, a recording equipment thread, a self promo thread, and a songwriting thread in addition to that "share your stuff" thread and it'd be nice to have it all in one place. and as @xFLINTvTONGUEx said it'd be cool to have a place where collabs can happen / people can freely make threads for their stuff / etc.

however there's also some concern about whether that forum would be used frequently enough or whether people will start joining just to take advantage of it, so idk. if having a creators forum of sorts is something you would consider in the future, then i think restricting it to people who are either prestigious or supporters would solve the second problem.

sorry this wasn't more helpful! i'm not really sure i have a decisive opinion on this yet

  15. No, this was really helpful! Thank you. Yeah, my main concern would be it would be more spammed for "self promotion" than anything. But we could also move that self promotion thread in there, and merge/move any self promotion that is created into that thread by moderators if needed.

Something I'm gonna think more about. Because like you said the guitar / instrument / recording equiptment stuff could all fit into that pretty well.

This might just be me, but does anyone else accidentally block people on mobile? When I view someone's profile on mobile and then want to close the profile, my brain always instinctually thinks I should click the text on the top right, which I should know by now is "block" not "back." Probably just me.

  18. I definitely did this once.

  19. I hadn't thought of that. I'll make a note to take a look at maybe shifting that, it's a good point. Thanks.

  20. Why thank you! I know how much people use mobile these days and I really wanted it to be a top-notch experience on virtually every device.

For the release dates page, I think there needs to be a different list font. The Courier New or whatever you're using is hard to read

  22. I'll give it another pass in a few days. I liked the monospace because of how much information was on the page.

Do you not like it on the tour dates either?
