That album is the best thing thing they ever did. Then it all went downhill.

I think this playlist has the least amount of songs/artists I’m familiar with. Excited to dig in!

Should've tried to argue Colour and Shape-era Foo fighters were a supergroup (ex-members of Nirvana, Scream and Sunny Day Real Estate)

I guess it's a complicated questions because in that kind of rock there is so many people playing in different bands that it gets muddy, but I guess the previous projects of Fugazi members were relevant enough in that scene for it to qualify?

Very interesting to see this, because I a few days ago I was thinking about why I seem to be the only person that does not like a universally beloved rapper, and I think it might be because I'm way more likely to like a rapper - no matter how talented he is, or how "good" the songs are - if he "sounds cool" (whatever that exactly means, it's a feeling rather than subjective criteria), and I think that rapper doesn’t.

I totally get this perspective too and I think it can be a “feeling” but it definitely IS subjective and personal.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played music I learned about online that music critics would describe as “cool” to people I know in real life (subjectively “cool” people to me), and they hear that music and say “what the HELL is this shit, this is awful.”

People like what they like and that’s it!

  19. Uh can't believe I didn't think of No Devotion considering it consists of two of my favorite childhood bands!!

We could also do an entire playlist made up of that Stephen Brodsky / Kurt Ballou / Ben Koller circle of musicians lol

Honestly, I would love more heavy music among this group. All of the groups @Elder Lightning mentioned are fantastic and the converge/cave in crew are great.

I thought about using a song from Converge and Chelsea Wolfe but that’s more of a collab album

The heavy music I want is grime and someone actually came through. Who?

my flippant comment was not meant to imply that music couldn’t be good without being “cool,” lol

In the bigger picture no but to a certain subset of music culture they were/are VERY important. In 2024 with acts like Turnstile, Knocked Loose and Drain being huge, their impact on music means more than ever. To this group: it’s not that big a deal.
