I really really hate this idea. But also I really like Michael Koman (who also did How To with John Wilson) so I dunno

    Not surprising at all

  3. At least it’s not a direct reboot I guess

I know this thread hates early casting speculation but hear me out: Conner O'Malley in the Dwight/Gareth spot. I can't think of anyone more perfect. Plus him and Komon have that connection through doing How To together. I would be 100% down for this if they make that casting choice

I mean, I would hope that they create characters that aren’t just “clones” of The Office characters.

I think they'll subvert it and play around with it a bit, but the basic set up will still be there.

This was a big hit among my siblings and I. We even made a remake of it with our parents camcorder.

Set in the same universe means Stanley or Oscar can show up for sweeps week.

What is so strange to me is part of the humor of the British version, and it was also in the early seasons of the American version, is that the company was on the verge of collapse. That is why they are closing branches; that is why Ryan makes that presentation at business school. It was funny that Michael-David and Dwight-Gareth took such pride in what was essentially a sinking ship. Now it is 20 years later and companies are still working with salespeople to buy paper? It takes away a lot of the critique of the business world and how cruel it can be.

I don't want to sound like an ass but The Office absolutely isn't sacred and feels like an extremely obvious choice to exploit over and over again. It only was any good for a few seasons and was mostly a pretty terrible show that basically rebooted and exploited itself in the end

It’s a pretty malleable formula for a sitcom, as Parks and Rec, Modern Family and Abbott Elementary have proven.

It definitely worked much better in the early seasons, when it really felt like working class people in a dying industry, similar to the feel of the UK Office. Once the whole Jim and Pam and the fandom took over, it really started falling off, with a few bright spots like Michael Scott Paper Company.

It could work again, especially since I assume we won’t get a bazillion seasons of it.

I’ll forever believe it should have ended with season 3.

It definitely felt like an ending. All the storylines were in a good place.

I think the one exception would be Michael. But they could have turned it into a positive, but as is, it’s a low for him.

But season 4 has the fun run, the deposition, the dinner party, survivor man

It’s not that there were no good episodes after s3, it’s just the show began to shift towards broader humor and IMO, got worse by that new focus. And I just think ending at s3 would have had the show go out on a high that they had built up to at that point while avoiding the many many lows of the following 6 seasons.

It didn’t go that way though. Is what it is. The Michael/Holly storyline probably makes it worth going on that long.

For the big summer of '24 movies right now Alien and Beetlejuice are the ones that have me most hyped, and honestly those were the ones i had the least high hopes for before most of the summer trailers came out.
